Pauline, who was born in Moncton N.B. on September 30, 1922, died suddenly on June 21, 1990. She is survived by her: daughter Marilyn and hus- band Ed Chicoine of Kamloops B.C. , daughter Kathy and husband John Best of Orillia, Ont., son William and wife Denise of Terrace Bay, and son Paul and wife Patti also of Terrace Bay. She is also survived by grandchil- dren: Michelle Kimberly, Debra, Tracy, Stephen, Sheri, Lori, Neal, Cheryl Ann , James, Paula, Jayson, and one great grandson, Evan. Pauline was predeceased by her husband William on Nov. 30, 1989. Active pallbearers included Jim Pope, Robin Hart, Jim Figliomeni, grand- sons Jayson Moon and James Davis and nephew Ed Moon. The grant money will be used towards the building of a scout's cabin at White Sand Lake, near Schreiber. Dean Main, Terrace Bay Rec Director, helped make it possible to apply for the grant. The total project will cost about $44,864.00. Dave Kaiser, Chairman of the Whitesand Building Committee, accepted a cheque from Peggy O'Connor, Ministry of Tourism and Zone Consultant, on July 10. Mr. Kaiser said, "We've started the site preparation and are look- ing to complete the project by late fall." NR research improves deer management Increased deer populations will allow the province to open some new deer hunting seasons and lengthen others in 1990, Natural Resources Minister Lyn McLeod announced today. Five years of research by MNR now are yielding detailed information on deer feeding habits, migration patterns and mortality, in addition to a method for accurately measuring the nat- ural food supply. "As a result, our wildlife man- agers are using these data to establish much more reliable pop- ulation targets in deer manage- ment areas," Mrs. McLeod said. "Ontario's deer population has tripled since the ministry estab- lished its selective harvest pro- gram 10 years ago." The ministry's management plan is to keep the deer popula- tion just below the maximum capacity of the winter habitat to support them throughout most of the deer range. This sustains the health of the animals and avoids dramatic changes in deer numbers and the problems associated with overpopulation, such as vegeta- tion damage and weakened ani- mals. Methods for achieving this include regulating sport hunting, managing deer habitat, control- ling poaching and managing predators. Last year deer numbers were high across the province and they remain high again this year.
