Phyllis Mosley, supervises the service which she previously ran out of her-home since October 1987. She opened the office behind the Commerce Bank in Terrace Bay on June Ist. Red Cross Homemakers is a non-profit service that provides assistance in the home, to the elderly, the sick, or disabled. The homemakers will assist in the home for a few hours each week, day, or full-time if needed for as long as required. The homemakers help with the activities of daily living such as light housekeeping, preparing meals, grocery shopping, person- al care, and also they supply com- panionship. on the GST legislation to only 5 days. The Conservatives tried to prevent the Finance Committee from travelling across Canada to hear other views on our tax sys- tem. The Conservative House Leader is now even threatening to appoint enough PC supporters to the Senate to ensure Brian Mulroney gets whatever he wants. That attitude is profoundly undemocratic and unfair. I believe Canadians deserve a straight answer. Canadians want This service can help an elder- ly or sick person to continue to live at home when they would otherwise have to be institutional- ized. Phyllis said that a home- maker will go to a home for an hour or two each day to help out and make sure everything is going okay. These few hours of help each day enables the client to live on their own. A few of the local clients also have a Lifeline unit in their home. All the homemakers employed must first have CPR, First Aid, and Home Support Level 2- a 120 hour course offered through Confederation College in Terrace Bay or Schreiber. Phyllis Mosley is the supervi- sor of 20 Red Cross homemakers who cover the area of Rossport, Schreiber, Terrace Bay, and Marathon. When the local service started in 1987, Phyllis stated that there were only 5 workers who worked 197 hours in a month. Presently, the service has grown to 65 clients in which 20 homemakers between Rossport and Marathon work around 1200 hours a month (combined). Phyllis makes home visits to the clients about every three months to see how they are doing. Some clients are able to pay for the homemaker services, but those who cannot afford it, finan- cial assistance is often available from the government, private or community sources. But the time has come for me to speak out against the dictator- ship of Brian Mulroney, I and people like me gave Mr. Mulroney the mandate to serve the people of Canada, we did not give him the mandate to become a dictator.
