By Angie Saunders The News Beta Sigma Phi recently pre- sented Elaine Mannisto with a cheque towards the purchase of a new Lifeline unit. A number of fundraisers were held this year to help buy it. small...portable Lifeline is a personal response system that links a person to a 24- hour assistance at the push of a button. It allows you to move freely around your home but if you should happen to fall,-have' an accident, or sudden illness all you do is push the button and you will be helped out. You've proba- bly seen the commercial on tele- vision. Terrace husband | charged with wife's murder An intensive joint investiga- tion by members of the Ontario Provincial Police, Schreiber Detachment and the Terrace Bay Police force, has resulted in the arrest of a Terrace Bay man on a charge of murder. Shirley Jane Payette, age 44, was last seen at her residence between 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. on March 23, 1990. On April 1, her body was discovered in the Steel River, 22 kilometers of Terrace Bay, by two fishermen. Husband charged On April 18, the husband of the deceased, Joseph Daryl Payette, age 45, of Terrace Bay was arrested on a charge of Ist Degree Murder. He is scheduled to appear in Provincial Court, in Thunder Bay, on April 19, 1990. Photo by Angie Saunders Terrace Bay Council Briefs The regular meeting of the Terrace Bay Town Council took place on Monday April 9th at - 7:00 p.m. Present were: Reeve- Jim Ziegler, Councillors- C. Joubert, W. Houston, and J. St. Amand, and staff- D. Fulton and L. Mitchell. John St. Amand will attend the Terrace Bay Curling Club wind- up. A member of council and the Police Chief will attend the Municipal Police Authorities 28th Annual Meeting and Spring Conference in Toronto May 6th to May 8th. All council members will be authorized to attend the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association 44th Annual Meeting in Thunder Bay on May 3- 5.
