'Page 3, News, Tuesday, April 3, 1990 Council needs support for Earth Day The regular meeting of the Terrace Bay Town Council took place March 26 at 7:00 p.m. Present were: Reeve- Jim Ziegler, Councillors- Bill Houston, J. St. Amant, Chris Joubert, and M. King, and Staff- Lorne Mitchell and Judy Wilcox. Earth Day is to be Sunday, April 22. Earth week will be April 21-28, 1990. A community Clean-up is set for Sunday, April 22 where the whole community will have the chance to clean up the town of Terrace Bay. The Council will provide garbage bags and hope to have a good turn-out Sunday, April 22 at 1:00 p.m. at the Rec Centre parking lot. Jim Ziegler, or an alternate member of Council, will attend the Opening Ceremonies of Firehall/Administration in Manitouwadge. April 29- May 5 is Human Services Week. The Township of Terrace Bay will send a letter of support to the Aguasabon Chamber of Commerce re: Incorporation. Chris Joubert, or an alternate member of Council, will attend the Spring Conference for the Municipal Electric Association in Thunder Bay on April 4th. Reeve Jim Ziegler, or an alter- nate member of Council, will attend the Annual Meeting for Family and Children's Services in Thunder Bay on Thursday, April 19th. R. Mikkonen will attend the Ontario Building Code Seminar on April 25th at the expense of the municipality. A Canada Day Dance will be held in Terrace Bay with proceeds going to the Boy Scouts. A letter of disapproval will be sent regarding the cancellation of the evening flight between Thunder Bay and Terrace Bay. Several employees of the Rec Centre will attend a Strength Training and Muscular Endurance Workshop on April 7th in Manitouwadge at the expense of the municipality. The Rec Centre employees will then assist in developing an orientation pro- gram for the weight room at no cost to the municipality. Council will apply for a grant of $2,255.00 to hire a recreation maintenance assistant for summer employment. Parking is prohibited on the north side of Highway 17 from Lakeview Drive to Simcoe Plaza, Councillor St. Amant will attend the Northwestern Municipal Recreation Association Zone Conference in Geraldton on April 20-22. Mike Yakomovich has been appointed Administrator for Birchwood Terrace. Councillors King and Houston reported that the Canada Day cel- ebrations in Terrace Bay might include a circus if a suitable loca- tion could be found. The Canada Day Committee also commented that a dance and possibly beer gardens were scheduled for Canada Day as well. MIINISTRY OF NATURAL RESOURCES FINAL NOTICE In July 1990, the Ministry of Natural Resources will be closing the Selim (Rossport) waste dis- posal site. A Public Meeting was held on January 9, 1990 to review the proposal and solicit com- ments on the project and were then reviewed by our office and the Rossport Area Waste Management Committee before a final proposal was reached. The new site will be developed 100 meters east of the Sox Lake Road. This site will be gated to prevent unauthorized dumping and only those authorized to use the new facility will have access.
