The fun began on Friday with 16 rinks. Earline Johnson, president of the auxil- iary threw the first rock with Laurence Madge, president of the branch sweeping it. Winners of the Ist event: Bernice Courtemanche's rink with Susan Hewson, Karl Glad and Garth Sweetnam. Runner up in A Event was Jim Bryson's rink, thicd Earline Johnson's rink and fourth Chris Hewson's rink. The B Event winner was the Jody Davis rink with Betty Ann McKenna, Gordon Ross and Colleen Gauthier. Runner up in the B event was the Ron Larivee Rink,, third Bruce MacLeod, and fourth Charlotte Miller's rink. The C event winner was the Paul Gauthier rink with: Nancy Zaporzan, Ed Borutski and Teressa MacLeod. Runner up in the C event was the Gabe Cousineau rink, third Ann Marie Martin rink and fourth Ruth Hiller's rink. Go For the Gold by Angie Saunders A&W in Terrace Bay has been one of 35 out of 381 restaurants chosen to compete in the A&W Onion Ring Olympics. Vicky Jameus and Cheryl Madore will be going to the regional conven- 'tion in Toronto to represent the Terrace Bay A&W. On March 21- 23, Vicky and Cheryl will be competing with 14 other restaurants to make the most delicious onion rings in Canada. Each team will convert 20 pounds of onions, onion ring batter, and bread crumbs into onion rings. The team awarded the highest points for time required to complete the prepara- tion, yield and taste will receive the gold medal and be named Onion Ring Olympics Regional Champion. All participants will be given A&W Onion Rings Olympics aprons and special team jackets. The winning team and all finalists will receive a plaque to display at the restaurant and pins for the entire staff. Onion rings are A& W's signa- ture product and arc made fresh daily. If you haven't tried them yet I suggest you hop in the car and head to A&W because they're the best onion rings you'll ever taste!
