' Letter to th Wednesday, Jan 31, 1990 TERRACE BAY/SCHREIBER NEWS | Count your toes 1 | WARNING: To snowmobilers and ice fish- ermen. Even before you start out for a day on the ice or ride on the trails, make sure you know who your friends are! There's nothing more frighten- ing than to see the last snowma- chine go by you and you're bogged down and the cord is in your hand. But heck they're your friends and family. They'll return (8hours later). It's comforting to know you Letter Dear Editor: Your picture on Page 9 of the January 10 issue of the News was excellent. However, what it failed to show is my concern. The picture does not show the other grades gathered on either side of the Grade 7 class in the gymnasium that December 15 afternoon. The caption fails to state the purpose of the assembly - which was to celebrate with and thank the entire school community for its excellent response to our call of "Sharing the Wealth" with those less fortunate than our- selves in the Terrace Bay - CRIA gu STOPPERS 623=TIPS 1-800-465-6844 Terrace Bay - Schreiber] «Can you get AIDS - by touching somcone who has AIDS? NO! Get the facts. Let's Talk. Heck they had a hard day. They have to rest a few hours (6 - 7). Good friends and family got up at the crack of dawn and went looking for the guy who MIGHT have taken a short cut or who MIGHT of headed to Red Rock. Heck what does he know when he was with experienced outdoors men and they've lived in the bush most of their lives. All I-can say to these eight or more guys is that this will be with you everyday of your lives and when you put your socks on, count ten toes. God willing, my son will be able to do the same. With friends like that; who needs enemies? Vickie Beaulicu - Nipigon to the editor Schreiber area. ' The fact is the Grade 7 class co-ordinated the effort throughout - by daily reminders and collec- tion of food and/or toys from the rooms. A picture and short cap- tion fails to convey the joy of giv- ing and helping as expressed in the eyes and excitement of the Primary Children as they wit- ncssed the boxes filling. It fails to recognize the parents of our school community who through their co-operation at home encouraged their children to bring in these goods for distri- bution. It fails to recognize the teachers of our school community who encouraged, reminded, and discussed the idcals of Sharing - co-operating and giving. I could go on with the merits and benefits gained by this exer- cise by my students in Grade a; needless to say they are many and varied. To say that I am disappointed with the coverage given, the time spent on this human interest story and the timing (Dec. 15 to Jan. 10) for exposure to the public, is really an understatement. John St. Amand Grade 7 Teacher Terrace Bay Public School e editor! Response to Letter to the editor By: Paul Marcon, General Manager, The Terrace Bay/Schreiber News In response to the letter writ- ten by Mr. John St. Amand. I am sorry that someone does not appreciate the fact that people have not yet accomplished the art of mind reading. For a newspa- per, a group, an individual or Mr. St. Amand may not appre- Ciate the fact that Christmas occurs (not only a time to rest for himself but for others also) between Dec. 15 and Jan. 10. Mr.. St. Amand may not also know that while he was enjoying the Christmas Holidays, I was work- organization to understand what someone else: wants there has to be a form of communication. Mr St. Amand did not explain to us exactly what he wanied in the paper. We attempt to Satisfy the whole community and to do so in ' short time frame with staff s"ortages means that many arti- cies do not appear in the paper. Suare the Wealth had excellent coverage. We placed large ads for fice as a contribution, each employée of the NEWS also donated food, pictures were taken al an event ,well after the dead- line and a large picture of the event with a cutline explaining the picture was placed in the Paper on a right hand page for excellent exposure.
