When approved, these rates will be reflected on all hydro bills issued after March 1, 1990 for all electric customers and April 1; 1990 for residential customers. This increase covers consumption of electricity after the date of January meter reading. The Winter Carnival is scheduled for February 23rd to March 4th. It is going to be :jam packed" with activities to keep the whole fami- ly hopping for the entire ten days. Aside from the activities listed in last weeks paper we will be hold- ing a couple of minor hockey tournaments, an exhibition game between the Intermediates and the Atoms, a magic show, a number of youth, teen and adult dances, a cross country ski poker run, a childrens games night, the 1st annual Schreiber Corporate Dictionary Challenge, a tot and parents skating party, the elemen- tary schools will be holding a Winter Carnival Day, Chimo Club will be sponsoring a card night, a toboggan sliding contest, a ski trip to Thunder Bay and the sleigh ride for the kids complete with horses and hay. Don't forget to start planning your ice sculp- ture and get your skits or whatev- er ready for the talent contest, there will be prizes for children, groups, individuals and adult cat- egories. This years carnival is going to be fantastic so mark the dates off on the calendar now! See you there. The final schedule with times and locations will be in every mailbox by the end of January. A two page advertisement will be in this paper around the middle of February. Anyone wishing more information on the carnival can 'contact the recreation office or this years carnival chairman, Mr. Bert Logan. FIRST AID AND CPR COURSES The recreation department is in the process of finalizing arrangements for a First Aid and CPR Course. If you have not yet submitted your name but wish to attend one of these courses please contact the recreation office as soon as possible as both classes have a limit on the number of participants. BADMINTON AND VOLLEYBALL The recreation department would like to inform all partici- pants that the high school will not be available on January 22nd, 23rd, 29th and 30th. Therefore these programs will be cancelled on these dates. UPCOMING SPECIAL EVENTS We are now entering our busy schedule at the arena. Fitness Leadership Program A Fitness Ontario Leadership Program entitled Older Adults sponsored by Thunder Bay Parks and Recreation is scheduled for February 10, 1990. The program, developed by the Ministry of Tourism and Recreation, is designed to help fitness leaders acquire the knowl- edge and skills which will enable them to lead safe and enjoyable fitness classes in the community. Program highlights include: - the physical, psychological and sociological factors affecting the older adult - considerations when design- ing and leading exercise classes for older adults - how to communicate, edu- cate and motivate the older adult - making it "fun" Registration is limited, and preference will be given to those individuals 18 years of age or older, who are presently leading Marathon Parks & Recreation Dept.
