Fenton said safety and knowl- edge of the law were stressed over the week long course. Exams were held late in the week with graduation taking place at the Terrace Bay Recreation Centre Monday night. A mark of 75 per cent was needed in order to obtain an operators permit. Another course will be held in late January or early February at a cost of $15.50. The class is already half booked. Photo by Dave Chmara ICG Utilities launches essay contest for senior Ont. students ICG Utilities (Ontario) Ltd. is pleased to announce its continued commitment to the North through its sponsorship of the Northern Ontario Business awards Essay Competition created for students enrolled in the senior division (grade 12 and Ontario Academic Credits) from Northern Ontario. Norm Didur, president, ICG Utilities, states, "ICG is pleased to foster opportunities in the North through the sponsorship of the ICG Essay Competition, 'Entrepreneurship in Northern Ontario'. This contest allows senior students to realize that they can be successful in their own backyards." This ICG Essay Competition was launched at the third annual Northern Ontario Business Awards Banquet in Timmins on Wednesday, Nov. 8. Attending the dinner were the six award winners, Lyn McLeod, Minister of Energy and Minister of Natural Resources, Rene Fontaine, Minister of Northern Development and Mines, Monte Kwinter, Minister of Industry, Trade & Technology. They were joined by members of the Northern Development Councils, government officials and promi- nent individuals from across Northern Ontario. A $3,000 scholarship will be awarded annually to a senior stu- dent submitting a 2,500 word essay in either English or French. This scholarship consists of $1,000 each year for three years, during which the award recipient attends a post-secondary college or university full-time and remains in good standing for that particular academic year. Essay kits will be sent to the principals of all high school throughout the north in December in readiness for the second semester. Submissions will be received until May 1 and the winner will be announced on June 1, 1990.
