Wednesday, December 6, 1989 TERRACE BAY/SCHREIBER NEWS Election of officers at next R.C.L. Ladies Auxiliary meeting The regular meeting of the R.C.L. Ladies Auxiliary, Br. #223 was held on October 30, presided by S. Love with 18 members pre- sent. Shirley welcomed our District Commander R. Beda and her friend Mary from Thunder Bay, as well as Skip Davis, president of the Schreiber Ladies Auxiliary Group. Minutes were read and approved. Correspondence con- sisted of two thank you letters, and a notice relating to Per Capita fees, deadline to be Jan. 31, 1990. Publicity reports advertising for the-Tea and Bazaar has been made through the use of posters, Terrace Bay/Schreiber News and local T.V. Sick and Visiting reported sending one get-well card. A discussion took place regarding catering for the New Year's Eve Dance. Christmas gift - exchange among the members will take place at the November meeting. Members are asked to bring cookies at this meeting. Nominations and election of officers for the coming year will be held after the meeting. For Remembrance Day, the flag bearers at the Parade were Stella Gusul and Yvonne Mallais, and Lillian Belliveau layed the wreath. The ladies sold poppies by the stores and at the Tea. ~ There was a discussion on our donation to the Branch at the sup- per. As Shirley was away, the first president, A. Hart presented the cheque to the Branch President on Saturday, Nov. 11. Rose Beda spoke on Scholarships and the by-laws of the organization. The Regional Meeting will be held in Schreiber on March 4, 1990. Pot of Gold was won by S. Love. The ladies of the R.C.L. Auxiliary wish to thank all who donated and worked at the Tea and Bazaar, which was held on Nov. 4 Special thanks to Robinson's and the donors of the following prizes with the winners as fol- lows: Quilt - Teresa Stortini Hostess Chair donated by S. By Maurice Fenelon Northern Development Officer The Independent Learning Centre (ILE) is one of Canada's largest educational facilities. A part of the Ontario Ministry of Education, ILC provides a free home study program for Ontario residents who wish to earn high school diploma credits, upgrade basic skills or study for enjoy- ment. Those eligible to enroll in ILC courses include: adults, students under 16, students attending day school and Ontario residents tem- porarily living outside Ontario. Those applying to take courses as adults must be over the age of 16 and be a Canadian citizen, or landed immigrant or Ontario resi- dent holding working visas, diplomatic visas or ministerial permit. In addition, those apply- ing as adult students must not be currently enrolled as full-time day students in a day school. ILC courses may be available to Ontario residents of compulso- ry school age who are unable to attend school for three months or more for any of the following rea- sons: extended illness, an isolated location in Ontario, or temporary residence outside Canada. A full-time day school student must fulfill all the following requirements to be eligible to enroll in an ILC course. He or she must; have completed 14 credits before applying; be unable to take . the course at school; and have the signed approval of the ILC day school facilitator. Ontario residents who are residing temporarily outside the province may be considered for enrollment in ILC courses. A complete and up-to-date school record is required. ILC students may take one course, several courses or acquire an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or Secondary School Honor Graduation Diploma (OSSHGD). On Saturday, December 16, 1989 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m, the Terrace Bay Fire Hall will be open to receive donations of food, toys and cash. COME AND JOIN US AT THIS TIME FOR COFFEE AND DOUGHNUTS.
