Leave a strip of untilled earth between passes. Till in a serpentine or "S" pattern to avoid creating ditches that can throw the tiller off bal- ance. Then, go back over the untilled areas to break the remaining crust. When the whole area has been broken, set the depth bar at 6-7 inches and till back and forth across the garden, then diago- nally from corner to corner.
