A special thanks to all the coaches and umpires, to the ball players and their parents, for being a part of our Minor Ball Program this year. Soccer Our Soccer Program started on July 12 with large numbers of tal- ented and enthusiastic soccer players lining the fields. If you're walking by the High school field on Monday to Thursday evenings, drop by and cheer our players on. Summer Playground The Summer Playground staff have some exciting events planned for the remainder of July. They will be travelling to the North of Superior Recreation Directors Association FUN DAY in Marathon on Wednesday, July 19. On July 20, all regular ses- sions are cancelled - and the staff has asked that all playground groups meet at the swimming pool at 2:30 for FUN IN THE SUN. Schrel Summer Playground Our annual Playground Program held at Schreiber Public School is in full swing. The Munchkins (ages 3-6 yrs.) meet from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon with the Munster's (ages 7-12 yrs.) meeting from 12:30 to 4:00 p.m. Children can register at the play- ground anytime during the sum- mer. Activities are held from Monday to Friday. The play- ground special events have already included a Topsy Turvey day, a hike to the Schreiber beach and a Teddy Bear picnic. Minor Ball The Minor Ball Program is experiencing some difficulty in starting up again after the one week lay off. If your child has registered for Minor Ball the schedule is as follows: Intermediate/Seniors at the High School Ball Field - Mon. and Wed. from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Juniors at the High School Ball. This procedure will be done at the hospital on Tuesday, July 18, 1989 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the emergency department and at the Schreiber Medical Centre on Wednesday, July 19, and Thursday, July 20, 1989 ~ from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. For appointments, please call the hospital at 825-3273 Ext. 130. Forty-five par- ticipants shot from the starting line to run, jog or walk the 5k trek around Schreiber. The first to blaze across the finishing line, with a record time of 16:39, was Gary Power from Marathon. The second place posi- tion was picked up by John Whitehurst of Thunder Bay with a time of 17:53. The third place position with a time of 19:45 went to Beau Elkin. The first female runner to cross the 5 k mark was Debbie Fummerton with a time of 22:18. The second place position, with a time of 23:28 went to Helen Whitehurst of Thunder Bay. It should. also. be. noted that.Mis. Whitehurst is over 50 years old and claimed first in the 40 plus age category. She certainly demonstrated to all present that it is never too late. With a time of 24:15 and only 11 years old, Rhonda Larivee took third place.
