An informal "Meet the Candidate Night" was held last Tuesday, November 1, in the L.S.H.S. gym Terrace Bay with all candidates in attendance with the exception of Frank Sechesky . David Schinbein and Daniel Alfonso. A small turnout was pre- sent to hear each candidate give a three minute speech on what they would do if elected to their posi- tions. A 15 minute recess for coffee followed and the meeting was resumed with a question and answer period. Such questions posed were: The loose dog syndrome, the inef- ficient street lighting system and the controversial Street Curb erected on Kenogami Road in front of the McCausland Hospital. Nominees agreed and disagreed to an extent on whether to leave the structure alone or to perhaps start over and erect a new and better one. George Ramsay seeks re-elec- tion to the position of Reeve for another term and his only compe- tition is Councillor Jim Ziegler. Looking for another term as Councillors are: Bill Houston, Chris Joubert and Michael King. Three newcomers challenging for their spot are: John St. Amand, David Schinbein and Douglas Caldwell. Seeking a seat on the Lake Superior Board of Education English Language are: Tom Falzetta, Joan Nugent, Jon Ferguson and Gerald Armour. They will also be hosting a similar meeting in Schreiber; Wednesday, November 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Rec. Centre. If any child is not properly immunized by the Health Unit or doctor, the Health Unit notifies the parents and allow them two week s to have the immunization carried out before suspending the child from school. Largest Ladies Cash Spiel Comes to Terrace Bay Nov 25, 26 & 27 The largest Ladies Cash Spiel in Canada with a 24-rink limit will be held on November 25,26,27 in Terrace Bay. This is the third year this event will take place, and many talented curlers have already participated. The first year saw the 1986 United States National Champion- ship Geraldine Tilden Rink com- pete against the eventual Huggies winners, the Pam Leavitt Rink from Windsor. This southern Ontario team were the 1985 Ontario Champi- ons, and in 1986 were runners-up to the Marilyn Darte foursome. Last year, Pam Leavitt's Rink returned with World Champion 3rd Jan Augustyn to do battle against such prestigious teams as: the Labatt's Olympic Curling Trials runner-up Connie Laliberte Team from Winnipeg; the Heather Houston Rink of Thunder Bay; Geraldton's Taffy Drajanoff; Nipigon's Jeannie Dahl; and the eventual 1987 Huggies Champs from Winnipeg, Chris More. The Heather Houston Team went on to win the Canadian Tournament of Hearts. Chris More's Winnipeg Rink will return this year to defend their title against all comers. This is a great chance for curlers of all levels to hone their skills against some of the best teams from the North Shore and the rest of Canada. At the Schreiber Teen Talk Halloween Dance, of course or at least that is what you _ would have found if you had looked in the Schreiber Public School gym on Saturday October 29th!! Festivities got underway early ith a Junior party for children rom grade four on down begin- for apples, played a scary game of King Solomon's Body and danced their hearts out in an evening that featured a costume judging contest and ended with treat bags for everyone. After a have hour break to replenish the snack bar and tidy up the Senior Festivities - a real scream! ing at 6:00 p.m. They bobbed up. Novelty dances and a cos- tume judging contest were the highlights of an evening full of fun which wound up at 11:00 p.m. Over one hundred and fifty showed up and a good time was had by all. The event was more than just a good time however. Teen Talk sponsored this dance but the pro- ceeds went to help in the work being done by the Schreiber Figure Skating Club. The Figure Skating Club works to help young people enjoy skating and develop skills and a large portion of their operating costs must come from fund-raising events. When Teen Talk heard of their need they wanted to help and so the Teen Talk Halloween Benefit Boogie came into being.
