This highly entertaining hock- ey game will be an enjoyable evening for the entire family. Happy Hoppers We are still taking names for the evening session of Happy Hoppers. This program will take place at the Public School once work on the Gymnasium has been completed. Babysitting This program, which is sched-' uled to start on October 11, needs more registrations for the program to take place. It's open to boys and girls aged 10 years and over. The participants will learn child care, behaviour and safety when babysitting. It will outline the obligations and rights of the sit- ters and employers. Chinese Cooking Starting October 6 We have openings in this pro- gram of Chinese Cooking where the student will learn the basic ingredients and techniques of Chinese cooking, which will enable them to cook such delectable dishes as Chow Mein, Beef and Greens, Sweet and Sour Chicken Balls, Chop Suey ,etc. Christmas Decorating Starting November 9 There are still openings for registration in this program. Elcanor will be teaching the stu- dents how to make a number of articles for the Christmas Season. Kids' Krafts - Starting October 28 We need more registrations for both classes of Kids' Krafts for the program to take place. The course will be held on Fridays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. for children 7 to 9 years old. For those from 10 to 12 years of age, it will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. For more information on this program call 825-3542. Knitting October 5 There are still more openings available for persons wishing to learn the art of knitting. This pro- gram is open to beginners, or the more advanced knitter. To be held on Wednesdays from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Paper Tole Advanced This program is scheduled for the weekend of October 21 and 22. Participants must have taken the Beginner Paper Tole Program. Power Skating October 4 There are still more openings available in this program. Ages 7 to 9 years will skate at 6:00 p.m. on October 4, 5, 6, and 11, 12, and 13. Those between 10 to 13 years of age will skate at 7:00 p.m. in the same evenings. Retirement Planning Starting October 17 Nearing that golden age when you are due to retire? This is a five-week program where the beginner will learn the basics of sewing such as how to read, place and cut a pattern, how to put in a zipper and hem a garment. General information on fabrics will be provided. Participants must bring their own machine. The Art of Smocking - Starting October 3 We have openings in either the afternoon or evening session. This decorative stitch can be used for dresses, pillows, runners, aprons, etc. Wreathmaking You can still register for this program, which begins on October 6. Several different designs of wreaths for fall and winter season will be taught to the participant. Recreation Brochure The Recreation department is in the process of putting together a Fall and Winter Brochure, which will contain a contact list for all organizations that wish to publicize themselves. If you would like to have your group listed, please phone the recreation office with the name of your group, contact person, address, telephone number and any other information you would like to advertise, e.g. time, place and date of meetings, or dates of special events scheduled for the fall and winter. This contact list will only be as complete as the information given to us. Please call us before the end of September so we can get the brochure out as early in October as possible. Skate & Equipment Exchange Anyone wishing to trade or buy skates, ringette or hockey equipment is invited to this exchange. It will be held at the recreation centre on Thursday, Sept. 29 from 7.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m. Equipment may be dropped off at the recre- ation office prior to this exchange. Part-time Help Anyone wishing to work part- time at the recreation office dur- ing the winter months should con- tact the rec office at 824-2317. Positions available are: conces- sion booth; ticket sellers; games room attendants; public skate ref- erees. Power Skating The recreation department is preparing to offer a power skating program for children 7 years of age and older. The proposed dates are Oct. 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, and 27. Anyone interested in attend- ing such a program should contact the recreation office. If enough interest is shown, the program will be organized as planned. Dryland Training All. minor hockey players atom-aged and older are invited to participate in dryland hockey training, which will begin Thursday, Sept. 22 from 6.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. at the rec centre.
