Page 9, News, ee September 21 , 1988 Sports = I- Team was A-1 in Slow- -pitch final On Sept. 10 and 11, a very interesting double elimination round ended the season of the Schreiber Men's Slow-pitch League. In the first game on. Saturday, the I-Team trounced the outlands 30-4. The second game saw the Sluggers defeat the Diggers by a score of 13-7. The Sabres and the Devils clashed throughout the third match, and when the dust settled the Sabres raised their bats in cel- ebration of a 16-11 win over the opposition. The Outlaws hoped on their horses and left the tournament after they were defeated by the Diggers by a score of 17-5. The last match of Saturday saw the 2nd place Sluggers face the 3rd place Sabres. The Sabres cut a path to a 16-11 victory. Sunday, Sept. 11 saw a very different day with the Diggers coming to the Park with their heavy equipment. After the Devils and Sluggers slugged it out during the first game of the day, There was something for everyone -- even this! The second game saw the two undefeated teams battle it out with the I-Team scoring 16 points to the losing Sabres' 9. It was then time for the Diggers to start their show in the 'Rat race' section of the tourna- ment. In Sunday's third game, the Diggers dug and dug and caught the Devils by the horns to win 11- 5 The Diggers then just buried the Sabres 30-11 in the fourth Youth Bowling League alters its schedule By Charlie Matson This year, we are doing some- thing different. There will be bowling on three different days to accommodate kids who play hockey or ringette. There will be regular Saturday Bowling from 2p.m. to 4 p.m., which will consist of three games. Charlie Matson is the director. Wednesday Bowling will be held from 4p.m. to 6p.m. and will consists of two games with Carol Gugelyk as the director. Thursday's slot will be from 4p.m. to 6p.m. and will consist of two games directed by Carol Gugelyk. The bowling fee will again be $25, and it can be paid at the Terrace Bay Recreation Office. The Diggers edged out the I-Team 7-6 for their third victory and consec- utive game of the day. Because this was the I-Team's first loss, these two teams would have to do battle again. As twi- light began to settle in for the evening -- and for the season -- the I-Team took command and defeated the hard-playing but tired Diggers 19-6. Congratulations to the I-Team in winning the playoffs and the League championship for the sec- ond year in-a-row. Congratula- tions also to the Diggers for their hard earned second place finish in the tournament.
