This is the staff of your local swim pool signing in again with this week's happenings. The registration for the August ses- sion of swim lessons is full again. We would like to thank all persons for making this session of swim- ming lessons successful as the last. If you stop by the pool, you will notice that the equipment shed has been relocated for those persons interested in watching the swim- mers. They can now be viewed from both fences. Once again, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all the people for coming out to all the open swims offered during the day. To notify the public - we would like to welcome a new member to our pool staff - Sandra McDougall (leader/guard). Thank You, The Pool Staff. Fall The Fall Fair is just 5 weeks away and the Recreation Programs will be presented to the community at the Fall Fair. The Recreation Department is interested in presenting new and exciting programs. Have you a tal- ent you would be willing to share with the community? If so give the Recreation Office a call at 825- 3542 Fall Fair The Fall Fair for 1988 is sched- uled for Sunday September 11 from noon until 6:00 p.m. The Recreation Department is now taking bookings for booth space. August 17 -- Tae Kwon Do - Conference Room - 7:30 -9:00 p.m. iber Rec notes Summer playground The summer playground had an . exciting week of events for both the Munsters and Munchkins. On Monday, August 8, the children enjoyed a tour of the new Schreiber Centennial Fire hall. The Munsters travelled to Terrace Bay on Tuesday for an afternoon of bowl- ing. On July 27 the supervisors planned a Swimming Day for the Munchkins. The weather cooperat- ed and all the children had a great time swimming and playing on the beach. It was the Munsters tum again on July 28 and the weather was great. Swimming, playing and an egg toss contest were enjoyed by all. Many thanks to Kara, Nicole, jason and Christine for inviting our group out to the beach. Also thanks to Pam Paradis, Cathy Lengyel and Sharon McParland for transporta- tion. On Tuesday, August 2, the Munchkins were taken on a tour of the McCausland Hospital. The chil- dren found this very interesting, and thanks goes out to Betty Ann Klassen for organizing the tour for us, and thanks to Cheryl Glad, Sherry Bourke for the transporta- tion to Terrace Bay. Upcoming events for the play- ground include a Career Day on August 16 for the Munsters where the children get dressed up as what they want to be. A dance will be held for the Munsters on August 18 and a Wind Up Party is planned for = groups on Monday, August NCCP Coaching Clinic A NCCP Level I Theory Coaching Clinic is being planned for the fall. This clinic is open to all sports. Registration is limited to 15 participants, so register early. For more information contact the recre- ation office at 824-2317. Confederation College Courses The recreation department is currently taking registrations for the following courses: Mixology; Introductory Hotel and Resort Management; Cabinet Shelf Building; Theory and Preparation of Food; and Food and Beverages Services. If you would like more informa- tion on any of these courses, please contact the recreation office. Mixed Slowpitch The regular season is coming to a close (August 14) and a tight race is being fought for first place. The playoff tournament gets started on Monday, August 15 with all 16 teams participating in an A Side/B Side format. The championship games will be played on Sunday, August 21. Tee off time was 11 am. By 1 p.m., it was pouring rain and there was some lightning which extended everyone's lunch break. However, being hearty northern Ontario golfers, we car- ried forth in the rain and our per- sistent efforts were eventually rewarded when the sun reappeared by mid-afternoon. On complettion of the golfing, we all gathered at Birchwood Terrace for a delicious meal pre- pared by "'Chef Leon."
