The Terrace Bay Recreation Department is looking for boys aged 11 to 13 who are interested in playing hard ball during the month of July. Attention soccer players! The Terrace Bay Recreation Department is planning to start a soccer program for boys and girls aged 7 to 9 years. this program would take place in late August and September. If your child is interested in this program, please call the rec office and give us his/her name and age. Further information will appear in future columns. Summer Aerobics is here Gwen will be instructing a Summer Aerobics class for Impact and Non-impact participants. This program will be held in the arena every Thursday evening from 6.30 to 7.45 p.m. It will begin July 7 and end August 25. Participants must bring their own mats and weights. Call the rec office at 825- 3542 for more information. Ladies use of Fitness Room We wish to remind the men that the Ladies Hours for the Fitness Room are Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 1.00 to 3.00 p.m. Upcoming Events June 29: Waterfront Development Open House 7.00 - 9.00 p.m. in Conference Room June 29: Bingo - 7.00 p.m. Terrace Bay Arena June 30: Teen Dance - Grades 9 to 13 at the arena. There is no charge for the dance, which will be held from 7.00 to 11.00 p.m. July 1: Complex closed all day July 2: Kiddies Carnival at the arena. David Bannerstone will give two performances; 12.30 to 1.00 p.m. and 2.30 to 3.00 p.m. July 2: July 1st Dance at the arena with music by Nick DeShane. July 3: Seniors Bridge and Cribbage Tournament beginning in the Conference room at 1.30 p.m. Schreiber Rec notes Swim Program The deadline for the first swim session scheduled from July 4 to 22 has passed. The department will still accept registrations although a late fee will be charged. Registra- tions for the second session sched- uled from July 25 to August 12 will be accepted at the recreation office until Friday, July 15 at 4.00 p.m. Playground Program The rec department is pleased to announce that, in cooperation with the Lake Superior Board of Education, the summer playground program will once again be held at the public school gymnasium. The playground program will start Monday, July 4. Information will be distributed in the newsletter, which will be distributed through- out the schools on Wednesday, June 29. Drop-in soccer program The recreation department will attempt to offer a Drop-in Soccer Program at the Holy Angels field this summer. Information will be included in the newsletter. If you want more information about this program, please call the recreation office at 824-2317. Canada Day Fun Walk Don't forget the Canada Day 5 km Run/Walk to be held on Friday July 1. Anyone can run or walk the 5 km distance, but you must regis- ter to be eligible to receive the numerous prizes to be given. Registrations will be accepted at the ball field prior to the 10.00 a.m. Start. Please Note: Motorists are asked to cooperate with those in the run. Although streets will not be closed to vehicular traffic, the run- ners and walkers will be out there. The streets involved are: Hillview, Park, Winnipeg, Walker's lake Road, Superior and into Peary, Scotia, through the Subway and Highway 17. Children's Play Day There will be a children's play day sponsored by the Schreiber Library and the Summer Playground Program. A number of prizes for a variety of games are available and all parti- cipants will receive a prize. Information will be included in the school newsletter. Canada Day Rubber Boot Tournament and Dance The first annual Canada Day Rubber Boot Tournament starts Wednesday, July 29 and continues through to Sunday, July 3. If you want some entertainment, come out and watch the antics of the rubber- booted players as they try to circle the bases in reverse while wearing the large, floppy black boots. Canada Day Dance There will be a Canada Day Dance in the arena on Saturday, : July 2. It begins at 9.00 p.m. and music will be provided by Partie Sound. Come out and help cele- brate Canada's birthday! Calling all children to Canada Day, July 1: A 'Decorate Your Wheels' contest will be held out- side the Schreiber Library at 12.30 p.m. Prizes will be given in the fol- lowing categories: Tricycles, Bicycles and Skateboards. In conjunction with this, an Open House will be held in the library from noon to 2.00 p.m. Coffee will be served. The book exchange with the Ontario Library Service (Thunder Bay) has been comptieted. There are many new titles from which to chose. . The display from Thunder Bay Museum "From Forest to Paper" has been in the library for the last two weeks and was be returned June 27. The 2nd Annual Yard Sale held outside the library on June 11 was a success. Photos of this are dis- played on the bulletin board in the library. CATCHING Catching is one of baseball's most basic skills. Major league players make it look easy but good execution takes a lot of practice. Fifteen ladies golfed in the "Participation Fun Run" on May 24 in sunny, warm, but windy weather.
