Page 6, News, Wednesday, June 8, 1988 Terrace Bay recreation news Sports Travelcade to Visit Terrace Bay Saturday, June 11 is the day the Sports Travelcade Van will visit Terrace Bay. This Sports Travelcade is a pro- gram developed by the Sports and Recreation Branch, Ministry of Tourism and Recreation to promote amateur sports and fitness. The Travelcade will be staffed by sports specialists willing to pro- vide information on a wide variety of sports and activities. The staff can respond to almost any area in sport. The 45 foot Sports Travelcade van will be located near the Arena and Swimming Pool. Sports Travelcade -- Tennis Clinics While the Sports Travelcade Van is in our community the Recreation Department will be call- ing upon their staff to conduct Tennis Clinics for the citizens of Terrace Bay. Junior Level Clinic -- Ages 15 and under Date: June 11, 1988 Times: 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Senior Level Clinic -- Ages 16 and over Date: June 11, 1988 Times: 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Anyone wishing to register for these clinics may do so by calling the Recreation Office at 825-3542. PARTICIPANTS MUST HAVE THEIR OWN TENNIS RAC- QUETS Swimming Registrations Registration forms for the 1988 Swimming Season have been dis- tributed through the local schools. You may also register at the Recreation Office Swim Lesson Participants Must have a current Recreation Membership. Must be 4 years of age before July 6, 1988 or entered into the Mom and Tot program. Must be registered before the deadline date of each session. July Lessons -- Deadline June a7. August Lessons -- Deadline July 22. Must have a parent or guardian's signature on the registration form. Tot Lot Registration Registration forms for Tot Lot 1988 have been distributed through the schools or you may register your child for the summer program by dropping into the Recreation Office. Tot Lot Programs are as fol- lows: Ernie & Bert -- Ages 3 to 4 years; Tot Lot -- Ages 5 to 6 years; Summer Day Camp -- Ages 7 to 12 years. Summer Hours are as follows: Monday to Friday -- 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.; Saturday & Sunday -- 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Lion's Club Flea Market -- Terrace Bay Arena The Terrace Bay/Schreiber Lion's Club will be hosting a Flea Market, Yard Sale and Auction on Saturday June 18 from 10:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m. All items donated large or small will be gratefully accepted. Arrangements for pick- up of these items can be made by calling any one of the following Lions Members -- Tom Dickson, 825-3209; Colin Crown 825-9578; or Bob Hopper at 825-3712. Those wishing to participate in the Yard Sale may do so by pur- chasing a table to display their typi- cal yard sale items. Arrangements may also be made to have their items auctioned off. A nominal entrance fee for Adults will be charged. This will entitle the participants to have a chance on the draw for a door prize and also entitles them to an auction card which they need for any bids on Auction items. If you want to see some 'exciting ball stop by the public school yard Monday, Wednesday or Friday from 4:30 to 5:30 and watch the little gaffers teeing off or drop by Holy Angels field Monday to Thursday from 4:30 to 9:00 and watch the other leagues try to imi- tate their adult idols playing slow- pitch. Umpires clinic The recreation department will be holding two umpires work- shops. The first on Wednesday, June 8 and the other on Thursday, June 9. Both clinics will be held at the recreation complex starting at © 7:00 p.m. If you are interested con- tact the recreation office at 824- 2317. Server Training Workshop The Township of Schreiber will be hosting a Training Workshop on Thursday, June 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the recreation complex. Any groups involved in Special Occasion Permit functions or in serving liquor in municipally owned or operated facilities should have as many people attend this free workshop as possible. This workshop will cover such area as groups responsibilities, lia- bilities, how to serve liquor in a responsible manner, what to do in certain situations, etc. It is imperative that all groups wishing to hold Special Occasion Permit functions have at least one person behind the bar that has taken a Server Training Workshop. If you are interested in attending this workshop contact the recre- ation office as soon as possible as their are a limited number of open- ings. Swim Program The swim program will be dis- tributed through the school or can be obtained from the recreation office on Thursday, June 10. Deadline for registration will be Friday, June 24. There will be a late registration fee for anyone register- ing after the June 24, and late regis- trations will be accepted only if there is space available. Mens Fastball Tournament Well fastball is back! There will be a fastball tournament held in Schreiber and Terrace Bay on June 17 through the June 19 with teams from Thunder Bay to White River participating. If you wish to see some fast paced action, plan to take in some of the games Rubber Boot Tournament The Schreiber Mixed Slowpitch League will be hosting a Rubber Boot Tournament as part of the Canada Day Celebrations. Games will commence Wednesday, June 29 and continue until Sunday, July 3. Come out and enjoy the excite- ment Canada Day Run Time is running out to register for the exciting event. The run will take place on Friday, July 1 and participants may run or walk the 5km distance. The run is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. at the ball park. Registration forms are avail- able at the recreation office. The winner of the CANOE RAFFLE was PEGGY REGIS of Terrace Bay. Thank you to all the people who bought tickets and supported our draw.
