Page 2, News, Wednesday, June 1, 1988 Ten pounds of bits and bites By Helene Ballard Hello Folks! I hope all of you have been enjoying the nice weath- er we have had. Our residents enjoyed several events this past week. Our usual Bridge friends were in on Tuesday much to the enjoyment of our card playing residents, and on behalf of everyone I would like to thank these devoted ladies for their kind- ness. At this time I would like to thank our Ladies Auxiliary for the successful Bake Sale held on May 20. Thanks to the many people who supported the Ladies by providing their delectable array of goodies, which I understand made a choice difficult. The beautiful Hawaiian cake made and donated by Alma . On May 17 several of our resi- dents went to the Community Band Concert and they all enjoyed it. I understand the music was very enjoyable and we want to thank all the members of the Band. Keep up the good work. I am sorry I missed out on all these events, but I sure picked a nice day to get sick and end up in the hospital. I missed out on our birthday party after asking our cook for a chocolate cake, and I did not even get a crumb. Let's hope my next birthday will not be spent in the hospital. I hope you will excuse this short column; I am back at Birchwood, but unlike a rubber ball one does not bounce back so fast. Take care and until next time: Small Boy to Chum: "So that's it! I always figured the stork had too short a wing spread to carry an eight to ten pound load." E The Chimo Club will sponsor a canvass of the town in aid of the CAT Scan fund in the month of June. Theatre group still enthusiastic Rossport Theatre Group's pro- duction of "The Hand that Cradles the Rock" was a success! Two per- formances (both a sell-out) were encouraging to a group that was only formed this year. Anyone able to get tickets and see the play know how hard they laughed and what an enjoyable evening it was for all. Although this year's performance was defi- nitely an "Adult Comedy", the group hopes to continue with com- edy because they believe that everyone needs a good laugh once in awhile. The Theatre Group received many congratulatory and thank-you notes for their efforts and were asked why they didn't take it on the road One director attending from Thunder Bay felt it would be a hit if they took it to the Lakehead. -- However, the cast and crew are exhausted after putting over 200 hours into rehearsals, learning lines, and production work. Asked if they would do it again, most cast members said "yes!" even though they were unaware of the time and effort it would take to pull off such a performance. Many viewers were surprised at the pro- fessionalism of the production, which definitely pleased the entire up. Already, founder of the Rossport Theatre Group, Judi Sundland, is busy 'talking to direc- tors in Thunder Bay and theatre groups to find that "just right" play for next year. Because those indi- viduals that came on board this year are the "founding" members, they will determine what play is performed next year and select the cast who will participate. From the beginning, it has always been the understanding that is is the Rossport Theatre Group -- not a one-person show. Hopefully, for all of us in the area, this is what will keep the group together and enertaining for years to come. Cast (I-r): Roxanne Raczyki, Dave Speer, Billie Jo Keating, Jan Raczcki and Shirley Vienot in The Hand that Cradles the Rock. nhoto hv Indi Sundiland
