Ringette association cele Page 7, News, Wednesday, May 18, 1988 brates the end of a successful season The Terrace Bay Ringette Association held its annual Parents & Daughters Banquet at the Terrace Bay Legion Hall on Sunday, May 8, 1988. In his preamble to the Association's trophy presentations, Chairman Gerry Withers said the four Terrace Bay ringette teams had a very successful season. The Novice team won gold medals in the Terrace Bay and Longlac tournaments and a silver in Thunder Bay. The Petites won gold medals in Schreiber, silver medals in Longlac, and bronze in Geraldton. Mr. Withers also thanked all coaches and assistant coaches for their efforts and dedication throughout the season. Sherri and Ron Jowitt again coached the Novices to a gold medal season; Lynn Black, Cathy Withers, and Sherry Moon led the Petites to their first win over Longlac, and a suc- cessful season overall; Diane Rennette along with Diane Pyhtila, Marianne McDougall, Mandy Ray, and Cecilia Person, coached two teams of Tweens to a three medal effort; and the husband and wife team of Terry and Sharon Edmonds, together with Clark Stuttard, coached the Junior Belles to their two medals. (Junior Belles) Lisa Marie Cornet, Most Improved Player (Petites); Jasmin Capy, Sportsgal (Petites); Melissa Helmink, Most Valuable Player (Petites) tied with Chelsea Black; Melanie Tremblay, Most Dedicated Player (Petites); and Andrea Capy, Most Valuable Player (Tweens). Missing: Lee Anne Fenton, Sportsgal As well, Bill McDougall worked with the goalies to improve their abilities, and Marcus Moeltner spent four weeks with the girls at the start of the season teaching them power skating skills. The past year's committee orga- nization consisted of treasurer/reg- istrar Debbie Helmink; secretaries Anne Dodd and Linda Baxter; equipment manager Sonny Helmink; phoning coordinator Diane Pyhtila, and her phoning committez, Cathy Withers, Hilda Engler, Sylvia Sutherland, Sherren Krachling, Cecilia Kaizer, and Patti Moon; fundraising and banquet coordinator Patti Moon; transporta- tion coordinator Jean Fenton; tour- naments organizer Cathy McGrati:, photo by Ed Taylor assisted by John Gray in the Novice/Petite tournament, head timekeeper John McGrath; refer- ees-in-chief Lynn Engler and Kim McColeman; billeting coordinators Brenda Harper and Joanne Moore; hospitality suite organizers Geraldine McColeman and Beth Moffitt; and Tween/Juniors Tournament Entertainment coordi- nator Kelly Wilson. In addition, a great number of parents helped out during the year with fundraising, transportation, billeting, refereeing, and food for the hospitality suites. Following the expressions of thanks, thirteen players from the ranks of the Petite, Tween and Junior teams received trophies rec- ognizing their contribution to their respective teams. In addition, all ten Novice players received partici- pant trophies recognizing their efforts. Patti Moon and all those who cooked or baked for the occasion are to be commended for staging another successful banquet. Thanks also to the Royal Canadian Legion for the use of their hall. The event concluded with the chairman urging more parents to become involved next year in mak- ing 88/89 an even more successful season.
