--_-- Local residents have a hand in By Maureen Tychoniak The Rossport Theatre Group has relied solely on volunteer work to accomplish the many tasks done to date. These volunteers are busy people from the community who are making that extra attempt to help out a worth-while cause. Two such women are laura Legault and Lynn McGrath. Laura was born and raised in Schreiber, but has been living in Rossport with her husband Leo for nine years. Along with their chil- dren, Grant and Amy, they live in the building which was the original one-room schoolhouse in Rossport. The couple have put a great deal of time and effort into the renovations. During winter months, Laura likes to cross-country ski and skate out on the harbour. When summer arrives it's camping w ith the family and fishing " 'anytime." Cooking is something she finds relaxing year-round. Although Laura's children keep her busy, she still finds time to be the Secretary/Treasurer for the Rossport Fire Protection Committee and the sccretary of St. John Berchman's Altcr Society. Laura has always been fascinat- ed with the theatre and remembers dressing up and putting on plays with her ten brothers and sisters. In Grade 12 she took Theatre Arts at Schreiber High, which taught the students the theory behind putting - on a production. She has done an excellent job of acquiring and setting up props for "The Hand That Cradles the Buying or Selling Check the Classifieds 825-3747 Rock," which will be evident when the lights go up on opening night. During the performance, Laura will be backstage assisting the perform- ers with props, and between props she will be onstage re-arranging and clearing props. She wishes to thank her friends and family who have contributed the many items needed for the set. Lynn McGrath, after three happy years of life in Rossport with husband Dan, has just experienced her most hectic winter to date. She wishes to credit her two young sons, Micheal 3-years old and Mark 5-months, along with their wide assortment of viral infec- tions for this most challenging time of her life. Now that Spring is here, she is looking forward to summer with more anticipation than usual. Lynn combats stress with vigorous aero- bic exercise, swimming and biking. Camping and barbequing are among her more leisurely pastimes. Despite her full schedule, which includes sitting on the Rossport Recreation Committee, Lynn has still found the time to help out the theatre group with her skills as a seamstress. Although we can't reveal too much about the costumes, we can say they look and work great! The G. J. Matys DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION The North of Superior District R.C.S.S. As Stage Manager, his responsibilities are to help Laura with props between scenes, cuing the actors on their lines and curtain calls as well as overseeing the lighting and sound. Before mid 1987, Don had no interest or involvement with theatre "Hand" work. This changed when he met Jon Bulles, the assistant stage man- ager with Thunder Bay's Moonlight Melodrama. Jon moved to the Kam Theatre and stepped up to stage manager where he invited Don out to rehearsals. Also intrigued with the acting aspect, Don hopes to be hired as an extra in a CBC movie being filmed in Thunder Bay. Don was born and raised in Terrace Bay and works as a machine-backtender for Kimberly-Clark. Until his creative talent was sparked, his pastimes were fishing and camping. G. J.
