Montreal - They're every- wire! The hockey coach who starts weekday mornings at 6.00am in a cold hockey rink. The lady down the street whose tircless efforts have resulted in a well- stocked library. They are Boy Scout and Girl Guide leaders, Sunday School teachers. They are your neighbours who freely donate countless hours of their time, energy and knowl- edge in the selfless pursuit of help- ing others. Air Canada is looking for them. The national airline, through more than 700 community newspa- pers across Canada, recently launched a nationwide search for. individuals whose contributions have enhanced the lives of others or improved the quality of life in their community. Air Canada's Heart of Gold Award was introduced March 15, in partnership with French and English community newspapers across Canada. The program is aimed at pro- viding recognition on a national basis, to people who give of them- selves to help others. Nominees can be a volunteer, "hero," or simply the person down the street who helps out in some way. The program is open to any resi- dent of Canada above the age of 18. Younger people are urged to participate in Junior Citizens Award programs administered by local newspapers. Air. Canada's Heart of Gold Award is aimed at recognizing peo- ple for efforts or deeds which are not normally within the expecta- tions of their employment, or which are purely voluntary. People can send in nominations using nominations forms printed in their locat newspaper, or by simply writing to Air Canada's Heart of Gold Award, care of their commu- nity newspaper. Nominations will be accepted for a period of four months starting immediately. Nominees will receive an award certificate recognizing their contri- bution, in many instances will be featured in news stories and will be considered for provincial or regional recognition by a panel of community newspaper editors and publishers.
