Terrace Bay Recreation News Fundraising Fundraising Workshop- The Schreiber Parks and Recreation Department and the Ministry of Tourism and Recreation will be conducting a fundraising work- shop on Wednesday, January 13, from 7-9 p.m. This program is a must for all organizations. Call 824-2317 for more information. I r_gr r_organiza- tion looking for ways to raise money? The Community Development Office has kits available to help groups to start their fundraising. These kits can be picked up at the Schreiber office at 302 Scotia Street or you may phone the Community Development office at 824-2867 to have the kits mailed to you or for more infor- mation. 1988 Memberships The memberships for the recreation complex users are now on sale at the office. Response to date has been well-received but we need to hear from other mem- bers who wish to keep their mem- berships up-to-date. You must have a valid recre- ation membership in order to take part in the following programs; curling, minor hockey, adult hockey, figure skating, bowling leagues, ringette, swim lessons, broomball, baseball and softball leagues and tennis. We urge all old members to keep their membership on an on- going basis. New residents to the commu- nity are informed that 'they must have a valid recreation member- ship in order to take part in the following programs: Curling, Minor Hockey, Adult Hockey, Figure Skating, Bowling Leagues, Ringette, Broomball, Swim Lessons, Baseball and Softball League and Tennis. Programs There is room for more regis- tration in the following programs if they are to become a reality. Over-40 Hoppers Calling all persons both male and female who wish to work out at a leisurely-paced exercise pro- gram. Lorraine has agreed to present another session of this program which will take place at the pub- lic school every Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:30- 8:30 p.m. This class of exercise is also suitable for pregnant women who wish to keep their muscles toned. Taking Charge' with Aerobics Louise has'a few more spaces available in her afternoon class of Taking Charge with Aerobics. This program takes place on Monday and Wednesday "after- noons from 2-3 p.m. Call the recreation office today to register. Cross-country skiing There are programs available for those who wish to learn how to care for their cross-country skiis and to also learn the basic - instruction on skiing. Youth (aged 7-12 years) will have their instruction from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, February 21; the adult program will take place on Sunday, February 20, from 1-4 p.m. Eat Well For Less This one-day session of Eat Well for Less will be an introduc- tion to cooking delicious and nutritious meals at an economic price. A film will be shown on the preparation of natural foods such as grains, beans, tofu and bread. Food combining and compli- mentary proteins will be dis- cussed. Samples will be given. Program takes place on March 5th, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. "Embroidery For Youth Eleanor has an excellent pro- gram lined up to teach children ages nine to 16 years the basics of embroidery. This program will be held on Saturday, from 2:30-3:45 p.m. commencing on Jan. 16 for four weeks. Flower Arranging Eleanor will be conducting a Flower Arranging course where the participant will be introduced to the basic design of flower arranging. Round, triangular and one- sided design in the theme of Spring will be taught. This program is scheduled to commence on Wednesday from 7- 9 p.m. beginning on March 2nd. Introduction to. Interior Design 1 This program is designed to increase individual awareness of colour scheming and space plan- ning. Participants will do a Work Up based on their individual needs utilizing floor plans, templatcs and samples which will be pro- vided by the instructor. We must have a minimum of 18 registrations. Date and times will be forthcoming. Kids' Krafts There are several more open- ings available in this most-popu- lar program. Donna has an excellent pro- gram to interest children ages six years to 12 years. The program is scheduled to commence on Feb. 9 every Tuesday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Knitting There is a program available for those who wish to Icarn the basics or more advanced knitting stitches. This class will be held in the multi-purpose room on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. coninencing on Jan 20. Learn to Skate The morning session of Learn to Skate is full to capacity but there is still room in the afternoon which takes place every Monday and Wednesday from 2-3 p.m. Call the recreation office at 3542 to register your little one. ~ Makeup Michefle wifl be instructing both teens and adults in the prop- er skin care and makcup proce- dures. The adult class is scheduled for Feb. 10, 17 and 21 from 7-9 p.m. The teen class for ages 12 to 16 years is scheduled for Jan. 13, 20 and 27 from 7-9 p.m. Oil Painting The fundamentals of oil paint- ing will be taught to the partici- pant during this 10-weck pro- gram. Material and equipment required, landscape, painting techniques, landscape composi- tion and painting the seasons are some of the curriculum involved in this program. Intermediate painters are more than welcome. Supplies can be bought from the instructor. Starting date is Feb. 3. Mixed Squash Clinic This program is designed for the beginner squash enthusiast. An excellent clinic will be held the first weekend of the month with a mini tournament for those involved in the program sched- uled for the end of the month. Decorative Tole Painting We are taking names for a pro- gram which will introduce the beginner to the art of Tole Painting. This art can be transferred onto a wide variety of surfaces, i.e., fabric, paper, tin, etc. The program will be scheduled for late spring. Ceramics Sylvia Broughton has another ' workshop scheduled to begin on Jan. 26. This program is open to experienced and beginner ceram- ics enthusiasts. This workshop takes place at her home every Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m. A newspaper is only as good as its readers! That's why were the best!
