Aside from Lafleur and Shutt, the Rammers team was made up of Danny Jackson (goal), Larry Sacharuk, Dan Tremblay, Leroy Gorski, Dave Chartier, Rob Tudor, Drew Callender and Merv Bonachuk. McKenna, Gord McKenzie, Mark Bilgc, - Joey. Speziale,, Ted _ Velanoff and Mike Lake. Schreiber's first goal of the Township assists with ski trial upgrading By John McGrath and Ken Lusk If local skiers banded together and formed a ski-club, they could reap many benefits such as gov- ernment grants, John McGrath told the News. McGrath, of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Terrace Bay district, brought to the attention of the News assistance given by the Townships of Terrace Bay and Schreiber in upgrading local ski trails. McGrath explained that the MNR and the township have a friendly agreement, and part of this agreement saw the recent pro- vision of a bulldozer and driver to widen parts of the local ski trails. John McGrath: "About mid- way between Schreiber and Terrace *Bay there are about 10 kilometres of trails known as the Nordic Ski Trails. "At Rainbow Falls there are opportunities to ski on the road systems. The Nordic Trails have been maintained and improved over the years by the MNR, by clubs and grant programs and by volunteers." Volunteers, who gave a very major effort this past summer, include Darcy Furlonger, Mickey Jacques, Lise Kenny and Lloyd McLellan. These people did a lot of clear- ing, chainsawing and brushing work on the trails according to McGrath. "This was really a good improvement but there were still stumps and moguls left. "So, the Townships of Terrace Bay and Schreiber were contacted to sce what assistance, if any, might be available for the trails to get a good product started. "The Township of Terrace Bay donated a bulldozer and operator for several days' work on the trails during which the widened trails were grubbed, levelled, and stumps were removed. "I think it made a very good end product. "Due to other commitments, not all of the trails were complet- ed but it was certainly a step in the right direction. "It was good co-operation," said McGrath. Less MNR involvement McGrath continued by saying that over the years involvement by the MNR has decreased, for the most part, for two reasons. One is that private citizens have taken on more responsibility for maintaining their trails and also because time does not afford the ministry to be heavily involved. "MNR involvement is to pro- vide technical assistance to clubs and user groups. see page 8 Midget Tournament Bob Spadoni, sponsor of the Schreiber Midgets, dropped the puck to officially open the Schreiber North Stars Midget Hockey Tournament on Nov. 27, 28, and 29 in Schreiber. Teams involved were the Schreiber North Stars, the Schreiber Kings, Fallen Rock, Marathon, Sault St. Marie and the North End Flames. The Marathon team did not arrive at the arena due to weather conditions so the consolation game was forfeited to the Sault St. Marie team. The Schreiber North Stars won the championship over the Schreiber Kings by a. score of 4-3. Next week: The Schreiber North Stars con- sisted of Joe Speziale and Frank Trichilo (goal), Peter Armstrong, George Hermes, Stan Spadoni, Bert Logan, Pat Webb, Lawrence McParland, Mark Campbell, Dale Ross, Gord Fummerton, Bob game was scored by Lawrence McParland with only 26 seconds left to play in the first period.
