= wo By Ken Lusk The News The Schreiber Torch Days Committee had a meeting on Nov. 19 and several exciting plans were made. One development was the plan to hold a curling demonstration session at the curling club on Dec. 5 from noon to 5 p.m. Curling is presently a demon- stration sport in the winter olympics. Curling Club President Bill Howard said there will be demon- strations of skills and techniques that will also see Se by the general public. Bill Hiller, Shane Riley, "? Gabe Cousineau will conduct the session. The session will coincide with the cash skins game in Thunder Bay. There will also be a cash skins game in Schreiber in the Women of the Moose News Terrace Bay Chapter 1426, Women of the Moose, held the Chapter night meeting on Nov. 1 and business meeting on Nov. 15. Senior Regent Sadie Benko chaired both meetings. Star Recorder Chairman Helen Almos was in charge of Chapter night program. Helen Almos introduced her committee of Janet Fowler, Clara MacDonald, Aline Deschatelets and. Sadie Benko and stated that a raffle would take place following the meeting. Enrolment took place welcoming a new member to the chapter. A report was given on the Hallowe'en dance that was a great success. Pot of Gold was won by Lisa Ready. A lovely lunch was served by Helen Almos and her committee. At our business meeting, minutes of previous chapter, board and busi- ness meetings, were adopted as read by Recorder Benita Valliant: Financial report was verified by Treasurer Annette Landry. Balloting took place on two members with votes being favourable. Giselle Legacy offered to pur- chase articles for the: penny auction which the chapter would hold at_ Birchwood Terrace at their Annual Birthday party on Nov. 19. Kim Ten Hoeve is in.charge of the Christmas party. The chapter will hold their Christmas party at our chapter night meeting on Dec. 6. Members are asked to bring a gift from $5 and up. Raffle was won by Margeret Mauger and Annette Landry won the Pot of Gold. A lovely birth- day cake, which. was donated by Helen Almos, was enjoyed by all co- workers present. S. There would be four end games and the teams would repre- sent different countries of the world. As part of the Olympic Torch Ceremony, a replica of the torch will be made and used, by kids of the public school. They will carry it from the school to the Schreiber Recreation complex parking lot at about 7 p.m. on Friday, January 8, to start the weekend Schreiber Torch Days. The rest of the school kids can carry flashlights to simulate a torch. The torchtight walk will offi- cially open the weekend cere- monies. The torch will be used to light a huge bonfire in the parking lot. At this time, there will be free public skating, a youth dance and a legion dance. On Saturday, January 9, there will be a tot dance, a play day, and at 3 p.m., the Firemen's Terrace Bay. Schreiber News, Wednesday, December 2, 1987, page 5 Schreiber's torch en plans on the go Contraption race is planned. That evening there will be a spaghetti supper and a moccasin dance. On Sunday, January, 10, a sleigh ride is planned for 1 p.m., and at 3 p.m., a ringette game is scheduled for 'the little ones'. A minor hockey games is also planned which will pit the refer- ees against either the midgets or the bantams. That night there will be a broomball game which will pit town council and the recreation committee against the firemen and the firemen's auxiliary. During the Schreiber Torch Days weekend, ice sculptures by different groups and organizations are planned as well a road hockey tournament. The OPP will be judging the sculptures. Ceremony The actual ceremony at the complex parking lot will see the trailor that the torch bearer will arrive at parked at an angle to the' hall. This will in effect block any wind there might be from hitting the people.
