By Helene Ballard _ Sorry I missed you last week, I just put it down to being lazy so I'll do my best to make up for it. We have been busy this past weck, of course, the Fall Fair took up a bit our ume. I am sure everybody had a good time; I know ! had a good time; I would like to thank every- one who helped in any way and to the folks who came to the fair to encourage us in our work- thank- you. I now have a special question to put to the staff of our recreation centre; it has been talked about at last year's fair and I did not make any comment about it at the time but again this year the same ques- tion was brought up so I decided to ask about it this time, so here goes, Would it be possible to have a more secure ramp at the front door to the arena because the one in use now is far from safe. Not only to the handicapped, but to people of all ages; itis very shaky with no handrail to hold on to. I know I would not care to push a wheelchair down the ramp or see someone with a "walker" try to go down. Iam sure you will try to give. this some thought and see if any- thing can be done to improve the ramp. : Maybe a ramp that when not needed could be folded up and put away there by not causing any difficulty for other events. Thank- you. Our thanks to our card-playing friends who have started their fall and winter Tuesday afternoon bridge games; so any of you folks who would like to come in.on Tucsdays from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. will be most welcome with our thanks. We enjoyed some nice music on Wednesday the 16th ; a young lady, Miss Anita Netherton, who is at present employed by Kimberly-Clark, came to give us some piano music. I hope she comes over again-to play for us, thank-you Anita. On Thursday, September 17, we had our monthly birthday party hosted by the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Schreiber Legion. 'After our coffee and cake, we enjoyed a penny auction. Our thanks to these devoted ladies; also our heartfelt thanks to the Schreiber Food Market for the beautiful basket of fruit which was the door prize and was won by Mrs. Elsie Dodds; and thanks to the following for donations for the auction; The Bay and the Voyageur in Schreiber. Sure would be nice if we could keep some of this nice weather we have today until Nov? Unitl next week, this bit of nonsense: (The following was contribut- ed to the Melita New Era by Muriel Ilutchins; it was given to Helene Ballard by a Birchwood resident).
