Riley eventually became a team lcader with five people as associates. Over time, Riley would and did get bonuses from the compa- ny based on how well her associ- ates did. It was around this time that if Riley acquired 10 associates, she was eligible to win a brand new Mercury Topaz. Well, she made that her personal goal and suc- ceeded. The idca was that as long as people as associates she could keep the car. She told the News that because she was still leaming new things all the time, she fell short of maintaining those people, which of course is no easy task. Riley said that after she won the car, she did not set another goal. "The goal should have been to keep those 10 workers," said Riley. She won the Topaz in January and lost it around June. Jim Chappel, outdoor recreation-supervisor withthe Ministry of Natural Resources, Terrace Bay District, advis€s that two sections of the trail received maintenance work in August. Chappel stated that "the district's Junior Ranger program was able to clear and blaze the section of trail between the town of Terrace Bay and Noname Bay, and also the section between Worthington Bay and Rainbow Falls Provincial Park." He added that "as the trail had not been maintained for a couple of years, the going was difficult and slow, however, . people can now hike from the Aguasabon River Gorge to west of Terrace Bay (Hydro), or for a longer walk tackle the Rainbow - Falls Park/Schreiber Beach/North Shore Mines section of the _ trail." The trail was started in 1975 and was known as the North _ Superior Hiking Trail. Later the Voyageur Trail Association assumed management of the trail, renaming it the Casque-Isles _ Section of the Voyageur Trail. It was maintained by a local group known as the Casque- Isles Voyageur Trail Club, Chappel advised that "the Trail Association is hoping to rekindle interest in the local club, but had requested M.N-R. assistance in the interim." The goal of the Voyageur Trail Association is to have a continuous hiking trail from Thunder Bay to Manitoulin Island. Chappel added "the local trail is viewed as an important resource, providing tourism and recreational benefits to the Terrace Bay, Schreiber and Rossport areas." Persons interested in reviving the local club or supporting the trail are asked to contact the Voyageur Trail Association, P.O. Box 66, Sault Ste. Maric, Ontario, P6A 5L2.
