Page 2, Terrace Bay-Schreiber News, Wednesday, July 1; 1987 Bits and Bites By Helene Ballard Time again for another chat. I trust you are all enjoying good health- our weather has been very. nice so let's make the most of it. As we are still in "Senior Citizens' Month" we here at Birchwood have enjoyed several events. We had our strawberry tea and as the day was a fine one we made good use of the patio which looked so summer-like with flow- ers in bloom. I would like to thank the Ladies' Auxiliary of Birchwood who were the hostesses for this tea. These ladies work all year for the residents making our lives more enjoyable and we are all grateful for their support. We welcomed some ladies from Marathon who drove up to pay us a visit. It was real nice to see them, and thank you for com- ing. Our reeve and council mem- bers hosted a lovely evening at the legion- each senior was pre- sented with a pin, "The Treasures of Terrace Bay". Our thanks go out to them for this nice outing- some of the residents enjoyed dancing to the music of "Party Time". Everybody said they had a nice time, and I did not notice any sore legs the next day. We still have some events coming up and I'll report on them next week. Until then this "wise remark"- College years: the only vacation a boy gets between his mother and his wife". "Au revoir". GINO CACCAMO announce the forth coming marriage of their eldest daughter, Arlene Debra to Mr. Hugh Joseph McCorry of Marathon, son of Mr. & Mrs. Peter McCorry of Antrim Northern Ireland. : *-Wedding will take place August ¢ 8/87 in SCHREIBER. Q Continuing Education office in Marathon As of June 1987, the commu- nities of Terrace Bay. Schreiber, Marathon, Manitouwadge, Heron Bay and Mobert will receive Continuing Education Programs from a newly-established office in Marathon. In the past, this service was provided out of Marathon. However, with the continued increase in population in this area, Confederation College has established the new office to bet- ter service the needs of people seeking post-secondary educa- tional opportunites. In the past, students attending continuing education programs in our area included people who were out of work and trying to develop new skills, people who were employed but wished to refine their skills in their current job or wanted to qualify for advancement, and people who took courses for the fun of learn- ing. With the establishment of the North Shore office, Confederation College looks forward to provid- ing increased opportunities for all Students in the area. If there are "10 or more stu- dents available for a course, it is possible to arrange a part-time night course with a teacher in the classroom. However, depending onthe number and the availability of the course, credit courses might be taken via the Outreach Program. This is a self-study method which utilizes a telephone line-up with a teacher once a week. Non-credit courses will also be offered as interest is expressed in the communities. Examples of such courses offered in the past include pro- grams in basic sewing, home auto maintenance and small engine repair. There are currently no full- time programs offered in the North Shore area, although it is hoped that a 2-year Business Administration course will be held in Manitouwadge starting in September of 1987. Confederation College also has available courses which can be delivered in seminar. For instance, the Ontario Management Development Program (O.M.D.P.) is a part-time program in supervision for people continued on page 7 THANK vou | | would like to thank everybody for donating their time " look for Trevor.
