Berchmen hold meeting- Anne Todesco tells all By Anne Todesco Comings and goings at Rossport The tug, Claralee, is back in the harbour for commercial fishing for another season. It brought back memories of several tugs operating from this samll village. Fishing equipment and grounds were handed down for years from father to son. The last of the descendents to be engaged in this ancient industry were Dave and Fue Ce FUe FU Fue FU FUN GU UU CU GUW UU UU CUS FUN CU GUT Russell Gerow and John Gerow. The fishing tugs were sold or beached when the lampry eel became so plentiful in Lake Superior- they destroyed the fish. Visiting with Mrs. Todesco the past week were her brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. John Douglas of Webbwood, Ont., and her daughter Miss Camilla Todesco of Toronto, Ont. Berchmen Society The regular monthly meeting of St. John Berchmen Altar Society was held Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Josephine Kenney with a fair turnout of members. The President, Mrs. Prina Gerow, conducted the meeting and 824-2771. We would like to thank all the people of the NORTH SHORE - SCHREIBER, TERRACE BAY & sur- rounding areas - for your patronage while we were in business. Thank you one & all! The minutes were read by the Secretary, Mrs. Laura Legault, and moved for adoption. The Treasurer, Mrs. Pat Beno, presented the financial statement which proved satisfactory. She also gave the year's report and handed the books over to the Kenneys to be audited. There wasn't any cor- respondence this month. The date of the Flea Market had to be changed to Saturday, June 13, owing to there being some absentees on the previous date set. Final arrangements were discuss- 1 . ed and workers appointed to the ~' various booths. It was decided to hold a 50-50 draw the same date. Mrs. Gerow announced that _~ Jason Iddison was engaged to look after the Church lawn again this summer. She thanked the members who were able to assist with the an- nual spring cleaning of the Church. Also that when preparing to use the Church's new Electrolux carpet sweeper, it -was found that the at- tachments had disappeared from the cupboard. Mrs. Kenney is to purchase the plants for the Grotto. Mrs. Legault offered her home for the June meeting. Then adjourned. Then Father Goulx presided for the election of officers. The retir- ing members were all re-elected for another term: President, Mrs. Prina Gerow; Vice-president, Freda Gerow; Secretary, Mrs. Laura Legault; and Treasurer, Mrs. Pat Beno. A vote of thanks and one for their success for another term. Father Groulx offered blessings and prayers. The hostess served coffee.and dessert while Mr. Ken- ney showed pictures of their winter in Texas.
