Student placement at Pacific Railway By Allyson Reid For the first time in several years, the CPR in Schreiber has a co-op student placed there. Andrea Stortini started her placement in the middle of Februrary, and she performs secretarial duties such typing and filing. Andrea will continue her place- ment until she completes the re- quired 150 hours of on-the-job training. Andrea told the News that she chose to be placed at the CPR because she thought she could learn a lot of secretarial skills while working for such a large corpora- tion. Andrea thinks that the work experience she will receive will be helpful in her future. The Pros and Cons While discussing the pros and cons of her co-op placement, An- drea mentioned that her work is very enjoyable. She finds the at- mosphere of her working condi- tions to be quite friendly and plea- sant, and she also finds her co- . workers to be extremely helpful. Andrea does not find any negative aspects to her placement. "*Putting in a full day at school and then working working at the CPR can be tiring. However, I do not really mind the work load," she said. Moffatt named director Ken Moffatt, well known as a Community Consultant at the Thunder Bay Centre of the Addic- tion Research Foundation, has now been named director of that office. Mr. Glen Murray, director of the Northern Region, in announc- ing this change states that "the Northwest is embarking on an ex- citing new phase of its development and it is encouraging to know that a man of Ken's capabilities will be providing a leadership role in the future of the district."' As a Community Consultant in the area of Health Promotion for the foundation, Moffatt has fre- quently been a presenter and resource person on addictions at seminars and _ Professional Development events throughout the Thunder Bay District and his numerous projects have ranged from alcohol management in Mun- cipal Recreation facilities to the touring of a live theatre presenta- tion to numerous cities across the province. Most recently he was chairper- son of the 1986 planning group for Fhunder Bay Addiction Awareness Week held in November. As Centre Director for the Thunder Bay District office of ARF, Moffatt will oversee the general work of that organization while continuing his lead role in Health Promotion. The Thunder Bay office present- ly maintains a high degree of in- volvement with Employee Assistance Programs as well as working for the extension and coordination of treatment programs for people suffering from alcohol and other drug addictions.
