Mrs. Prina Gerow hosted the ladies of St. John Birchmen Altar Society Thursday evening for the regular monthly meeting at 8 p.m. Mrs. Gerow lead in the opening prayers and chaired the meeting. It was a long meeting with a lengthy agenda to work on as there wasn't a meeting in the month of February. She welcomed the members pre- sent, pleased that some were in bet- ter health. The Secretary, Laura Legault, read the minutes of the last meeting and the Treasurer, Pat Beno, gave a report on the financial statement. Both reports were moved for adoption. The sick and visiting card report was given by Laura Legault for the past two months. The secretary was called upon to read the correspondence. It dealt with reports from the Don Bosco missions sponsoring a young man to enter the priesthood and a dona- tion to an El Salvador family where parents and families are now engaged in making cinder black bricks. It was decided to continue this service for another six months. Several thank-you notes and cards were received from those receiving flowers, food and cards Information on the hall rental fees was received. Letters of ap- preciation are to be sent to Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Gerow for the ex- cellent job they did on. repairing and painting the stations of the Cross, to Mrs. Larivee for the afghan which is to be on draw dur- ing the Fish Derby in July. Accounts were moved for payment. Under New Business, a discus- sion was had on what type of an event could be held to raise money. But owing to the new hall rental fees, it was decided to wait for warmer weather, as little profit would be made on a bake sale or rummage sale. Some suggestions were made to hold garage, lawn or veranda sales. This thought is to be discussed fur- ther at the next meeting. The President, Prina Gerow, en- couraged the members to start now to gather articles of jewelery clothing, dishes, pots and pans, nicknacks and furniture for a rum- mage sale or flea market to be held in the near future. Also, to notify friends and neighbours for con- tributions to the event. Mrs. Todesco lead a discussion on the type of entertainment shown on TV programs. She said that lit- tle people are mimics and do try to imitate their elders, and they observe VIOLENCE, MURDER, PASSIONS, DRINKING, THEFT, BREAKING-IN CRUELTY, etc. She asked how we could remedy this situation. The clergy of all denominations could probably band together to give us help for cleaner and better programs. Parents could monitor the pro- grams suitable for their children to view. Mrs. Todesco agreed to look further into this subject. The minute meditation for the day was '"'The way we came to understand LOVE was that God laid down His life for us."' Following adjournment and closing prayers, lunch was served. Mrs. Todesco invited the group to meet at her home for the April 9
