"age 8, Terrace Bay-Schreiber News, Wednesday, November 5, 1986 Winnie's Scribbles By Winnie Campbell On Saturday, Oct. 18, 65 ladies from Terrace Bay, Manitouwadge, and Schreiber met at St. John's Anglican Church in Schreiber for the Fall Deanery Meeting. Rev. Bill Legrand led with a Eucharist Prayer. Many ladies read greetings of prayers from people who have been helped. After the service, all went over to the United Church for coffee and a' meeting. The minutes of the last meeting were read, and the treasurers report read from the Social Action, Girls Auxilary, Pakistan Church Camp, etc. There was a display of embroidery set up by the ladies. It was voted that the money from the morning service woudl be given to the St. Andrew soup kitchen in Thunder Bay. Mrs. Travola of Thunder Bay gave a sad account of the people there in need. Then there was a showing of a tape on visiting the sick and shut-ins, done wonderfully by Canon Smith from Thunder Bay. Discussions followed. The Manitouwadge delegates gave a warm invitation to host a meeting in the future if we were interested. The meeting was adjourned with prayers. A delicious lunch was served by our parish and everyone headed back home after a very successful and plea- sant day. Sorry I missed you all last week, but I have been under the weather and did not feel very much like writing. However, I'll try my best this week to get a short column out. : While I was hors de combat, | missed a few fun events at Birchwood Terrace. First off, they had an Oktoberfest. Our hosts were the staff of Birchwood. I understand that a delicious supper was served and en- joyed by all. We also had some senior citizens from Beardmore who came by bus for our evening of fun. Some of the folks had not seen each other for quite some time, so there was a lot of hap- py talk about old times. Everybody had a good time, and it would be nice if we could have ... these visits between different towns and senior citizens more often. There Auxiliary Dinner A raffle and membership table was present at the annual Royal Canadian Legion Auxiliary Dinner held at the Terrace Bay Legion Hall on Nov. 1. is still some life left in us "ole folks!" On behalf of the residents of Birch- wood, I would like to thank our hosts and our visitors for making this such a special event. I know this is a short column, but -I promise to do better next time. A big thank you for all your good wishes. They help cheer me up. And now a wee joke from our Police Force: < A group of schoolchildren visited the local police station and viewed the pictures of the ten most wanted men. One child pointed to a picture and asked if it really was a photograph of the wanted person. "Yes,"' answered the policeman guide. -"Well,"' responded the youngster, "why didn't you keep him when you took his picture?" Until next week, dear readers, cheerio. At the table are Lillian Belliveau, Caroline MacLeod, and Cora Ropchan. Lillian's quilt, seen in the background, was the raffle prize. aR -Che- Manor ts NNot Too Late Gor Christmas Delivery on Our Beautiful Selection of: - Sofas -- Lamps - Tables & Accessories eee ee ee ee Be eo ee eee ee LLL LLL LLL ee ee a ee ee House COMPLETE HOME FURNISHINGS PROFESSIONAL DECORATING SERVICE For Free In Home Consultation or drop in at ila 2' CUSTOM DRAPERIES Call 345-8590 Collect -The- nor House 131 COURT ST.
