By Terry Bryson Terrace Bay Recreation Co-ordinator This will be my last article for the News as I will be moving to a job in Sault Ste. Marie with the Ministry of Tourism and Recreation effective Oct. 14, and I would like to express to the community my family thanks for four enjoyable years in Terrace Bay. Terrace Bay is fortunate in having dedicated individuals and community groups who are interested in the pro- vision of recreation services to this community. In delivery system of recreation, these volunteer organiz- ations and individuals are essential, and I thank them for making my job as co-ordinator enjoyable. The provision of recreation also needs an active, concerned recreation committee, which Terrace Bay is for- tunate in having in place. To Ernie Kettle, Don Davey, Bill McDougall, Russ Phillips, Mike Rust, Chris Joubert, and Jim Ziegler, the words "thank you"' are really small words to express my gratitutde to each and every one of you. At times you go un- noticed, but you are an essential com- ponent of this system. I cannot express in words my ap- peciation to the Recreation staff, who I consider to be "the best" I have worked with in my 11 years in this field. The day-to-day administration and maintenance of the recreation facilities and the implementation of programs, the problem-solving, the processing of grants and public rel- ations afe extremely difficult if a per- son attempts to do it on his own. Therefore, assistance of staff is critical and I thank you for your help. We have worked as a "family" and I have enjoyed this working relation- ship. Joan, Nancy, Wendy, Louise, Betty Ann, Tom, Roz, Brian, Roger, Linda--I can't in words thank you . enough. Our doors are always open in the Sault. Keep in touch. To the residents of this communi- ty, please continue to let the depart- ment know of your recreation needs. Our *'Let's Hear From You" ap- New pageant starts There will be a Miss Northwestern Ontario Pageant for the first time ever starting next year. At the annual meeting of NOACC, the Northwestern Ontario Associated Chambers of Commerce, held last month at Minaki Lodge, the President of the Fort Frances Chamber of Com- merce announced plans for the event. Craig Sanders added that the win- ner of the pageant will compete for the title of Miss Canada at the annual, national contest held in Toronto every October. He noted that Fort Frances has sent a contestant to Miss Canada for several years, but the Chamber has decided to run a regional pageant next year instead, as a vehicle to better promote Northwestern Ontario to the rest of Canada. In a news release sent on Sept. 28, the Fort Frances Chamber noted that its area of franchise for the contest includes all centres from White River in the east to the Manitoba border, north to Pickle Lake, with the southern edge being the international border with the United States. This area would therefore include Terrace Bay, Schreiber, and Rossport. Invitations to participate have been extended to all comunities within the Fort Frances franchise area, the news release added. The first annual Miss Northwest- ern Ontario Pageant will be held in Fort Frances during the annual Fun in the Sun celebrations, scheduled for late June of 1987.
