Safety clinic held Submitted by the Lake Superior Board of Education, Schreiber The schools of the Lake Superior Board of Education provide busing to all students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 3 year round. Busing is also provided for students for whom dis- tance from home to school is con- sidered excessive. The Board has a Transportation Policy which outlines not only bus routes but its safety policies as well. The principal of each school is responsible to ensure that all students receive instruction in bus safety throughout the year. Schreiber and Terrace Bay Public Schools have utilized the services of the local police and local bus drivers in their programs. Teachers do an overview of bus safety rules in their classrooms at the beginning of the school year and this is fullowed up with simulations using the school bus and driver. This was done on Sept- ember 18. The simulation is followed by a showing of bus safety films. Each stu- dent receives copies of Ministry of Transportation and Communication bus safety materials to share with their parents as review. The schools also distribute a Board-published pamphlet called "A Guide to Student Transportation" which outlines the responsibilities of the students, parents, school, Board and bus company with regard to bus safety. This is a team effort! Schreiber and Terrace Bay Public Schools wish to acknowledge to assistance of the bus drivers as well as Constable Don Anderson of the Schreiber OPP and Constable Gary Callaghan of the Ter- tace Bay Police Force.
