The success of that voy- age prompted him to start the MS World Tour, which got underway in Toronto in September of 1983. His plan was to cycle the distance equivalent to the circumference of the world (40,000 kilometres). Since he began, Beecroft has been robbed at least twice, hit by five cars, and crossed six deserts. But he has remained optimistic, and said "During the time I have been cycling, my ex- periences have been 100 times more positive' than negative. It really is a wonderful world we live in ..-people have offered me support everywhere that I have been."'
