A series of three photographs were recently put on ical Society at the Bank of Montreal branch in Schreiber. Bank manager Kathleen Gellart posed with the pictures, the oldest of which is at the top. It records what the town was like back in 1884. The second photo is a Schreiber overview taken By Helene Ballard Hello folks. I trust you have all recovered from our scare of last week. I think we should all pray for rain as the fire danger is high. It is so dry, so we must be extra careful with matches and cigarettes. Please make sure your smokes are out. At this time, on behalf of the residents here at Bir- chwood, I would like to thank the ladies of our Auxilary fro the Bake Sale they had last Friday and to all of you who came to the sale and helped to make it a success. We have a lot to be Bits and Bites Terrace Bay-Schreiber News, Wednesday, June 4, 1986, page 5 thank all those who came to the Recreation Centre last Friday May 16 to play cards to help our newly formed club to help the handicapped. I am sure they are grateful to you. I hope we can have more oc- casions to help in this work. Remember, no man is an island unto himself. We all need someone and let's face it, we never know when we will need help, so anytime there is any event for this worthy cause please try and help. Thank ou. And now for a "Bite". There was a bad mess last Sunday in the park. Broken beer bottles, candy wrap- pers, etc. Come on now, it's not so hard to pick up amess we make. Just don't throw it on the ground in the first place, then no clean up would be necess- ary. We had our young folks cleaning up and these few thoughtless clowns make it look like the town dump. . Until next week, this wee story: A wife asked her husband to go to the grocery store to buy a cab- bage. "What size", he asked."About as big as your head,"' she replied. Ten minutes later he was back. His wife was de- Historical photos display by the Schreiber Histor- thankful for, as we have our hard working Aux- ilary, and also our vol- unteers who give us their time to help make our life more enjoyable. Our resid- ents make this a time of fun and entertainment. Again, folks, our heartfelt thanks. While in the "Thanks Dept.", I would like to Keep Canada a) Beautiful by the Department of Agriculture in 1907, while the large shot at the bottom is a panoramic view of the townsite as it appeared in 1932. ~ Bowl forever There are many kinds of people, and we've met quite a few, the stay-at- homes, the gad-abouts, the in-betweeners too. If you want to meet the finest folk, just take a stroll and drop in at the alleys where the GOLDEN AGERS bowl! We know that we are getting on and slowing up alot, our-hair is grey and thinner, our stomach's gone to pot. But if you think we're down and out and ready for the knoll, just watch us cut the mustard when the GOLDEN AG- ERS bow!! We all have our dif- ferences as old folks always do, our politics, our family ties, and our rel- igions too. But when the game gets underway and the balls begin to roll, we don't have time to argue when the GOLDEN AG- ERS bowl! We sometimes get a one- ball strike, and now and then a spare. Of headpins, corners, and the splits, we seem to get our share. And even when we do our best, the gutters take their toll. There are lots of variations when the GOLDEN AG- ERS bow!! For some it is a pleasure to make the maples fly, Some like to use their bod- ies for "English" on the sly. But when the ball is on its way and the pins begin to roll, we hope for strikes for everyone when the GOLDEN AGERS bow!! We know the noise is deafening when the pins go flying high. The clatter echoes through the roof and reaches to the sky. But if you think the din is loud when the balls start in to roll, you should hear our cheering sections' when the GOLDEN AGERS bow!! No matter just how hard we try we sometimes can- not click. The ball goes here, the ball goes there.. .it really makes us sick. Then we stumble on the foul line and wind up in the hole! We all have our unlucky days when the GOLDEN AGERS bow!! Some like to wear their bowling shirts, some have sweaters too. In browns, green, reds and pinks, they come in every hue. But you can bet your bottom dollar and stake your very soul, that you won't see any streakers when the GOL- DEN AGERS bow!! The hunters have their hunting ground where they go when they die. The cowboys have their hea- ven...a ranch up in the sky. But somewhere in that Pro- mised Land where St. Peter calls the roll, are the ALLEYS OF THE ANG- ELS where the GOLDEN AGERS bow!! We have our life-long wishes and hope they all come true. We wish for health and happiness, and sometimes riches too. But when we have to cross the bar and the Reaper takes his toll, we hope to have a grandstand seat where the GOLDEN AGERS bow!! "I just tried my hat on all of them until I found one that fit."' Bye for now.
