MNR officials previous- ly recommended the use of chemical sprays in remote areas, but only when forests were in a "last leg" situation, i.e. they could not withstand another season's attack by the bud- worm. In these situations, because of their greater chance of failure, biological sprays were not recommended. According to a recent news release from the Nor- thwestern Ontario Associated Chambers of Commerce, the chemical sprays proposed for use by the MNR are among the most widely used pesticide for human food crops in the "world. It will list the names, phone numbers, and skills of local women offering these services to area residents at reasonable prices.
