Conference set for this week | A Cross-Cultural Con- ference will be held in Ter- race Bay at the High School on April 11-13, ac- cording to a news release. The Conference objec- tives are to provide a forum for the various cultural groups in Northwestern Ontario to meet and discuss ways of establishing better intercultural communica- tion and co-operation; to provide an opportunity for the different cultural ser- vice groups in the region to share ideas and enlighten others on the problems each faces in context of Multiculturalism; and, to facilitate for the expression of opinions on issues of mutual concern and the presentation of resolutions on the same. Representatives from Multicultural Associations, Indian Friendship Centres, Anglophone and Fran- cophone Organizations and other service organizations working with cultural groups in the region are be- ing invited to attend. Ap- proximately 50 delegates are expected to take part at the conference, with special guests being invited for some sessions. The Conference will begin on Friday, April 11. Check in at the Imperial Motel in Terrace Bay is ex- pected on this day. From 7 p-m. to 10 p.m. there will be registration and a welcome reception, at the High School gym. Local community leaders will be invited as special guests, and delegates will have an opportunity to be ac- quainted informally. On Saturday, April 12, there will be a late registra- tion at the Terrace Bay High School from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. From 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. there will be announcements, in- troduction of delegates and guests as well as a sum- mary of conference goals and objectives. From 9:45 to 10 a.m. there will be coffee and tea and a break into subgroups. From 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. group work sessions will be held. The delegates will be subdivided into four main groups, i.e. Anglophones, Francophones, Natives and "all others". where they will have an opportunity to prioritize key issues they regard as problem areas. The groups will take notes and will have a reporter to present their deliberations. The group reports will be presented from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. Lunch will be then held at the Terrace Bay High School from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30: p.m. Small group workshops will get under way from 1:30 to 3 p.m. During this time, delegates will be mixed and will now have to discuss the issues presented from the specific cultural groups. They are expected to highlight any problem areas and make recommendations. Each group will have to choose someone to report the deliberations. At 3 p.m. there will be a fifteen minute coffee/tea break, and following this break, reports from the dif- ferent groups, and general discussion of the issues raised will commence un- til 4:30 p.m. From 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. there will be a break or a free time period, and following this break supper will be held at the Terrace Bay High School. Supper will end at 7:30 p.m. and from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. there will be entertainment featuring a variety of Cultural groups from the Region. On Sunday, April 13 a continental breakfast will be served at the Imperial Motel. A summary of con- ference proceedings, the passing of resolutions adopted and the follow up strategies will then be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. From 11 a.m. until 12 noon, a lunch will be held at the Imperial Motel. Following the lunch, the delegates will depart. Accomodation will be at the Imperial Motel, just off Highway 17 in Terrace Bay, for Friday and Satur- day nights. It is advisable to have all names of poten- tial delegates to enable us to reserve adequate rooms. The hosts will pay for ac- comodation only. All telephone or room service bills will be the respon- sibility of the occupants. _ The hosts of the con- ference will provide all meals. Continental breakfast will be provided Saturday and Sunday mor- nings. Lunch and supper will be provided at the High School on Saturday. Allowances will be paid to delegates for the Friday supper and Sunday lunch. Delegates will be given allowance to cover travel expenses. However, due to the vast distances between communities in. Nor- thwestern Ontario, delegates are encouraged to | use car-pools wherever | possible. This office could | be used to help transport co-ordination. A registration fee of 10 dollars will be charged to all participating delegates, and this will be used to cover printing costs and the materials to be distributed at the Conference. A report on the Conference pro- ceedings will also be published and sent to all the participants.
