Terrace Bay-Schreiber News, Wednesday, April 9, 1986, page 1 Being a Board trustee can be overwhelming by Mary Clara Papineau (The following is a copy of a submission from Lake Superior Board of Educa- tion trustee Mary Clara Papineau which originally appeared in the Lake Superior Women Teacher's Association newsletter "Superior Contact": As a newly elected trustee, I am overwhelmed by everything -- the exten- sive government involve- ment, the grant system, bargaining/contracts, com- puters, policy, Bill 30, Bill 75, Bill 82 ... Our lengthy meetings contain lingo I don't understand, but the Glossary of Education Terms by FOSTA 'is a great help. We attended a Residential Workshop in January which was a great eye-opener for me. It was divided into two parts -- input by excellent resource people, and time for the trustees and administration to identify issues and their concerns. Aside from lear- ning a great deal about our corporate Board, it was a chance to get to know everyone better! I can't stress enough how new I am to the role of trustee. The LSBE is fortunate to have ex- perienced and very knowledgeable trustees and Notice The General Meeting of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary was held on March 31 with very few in attendance. Three ladies were awarded. medals for their work and dedication to-the Auxiliary. They are as follows: Stella Gusal: Past. of- ficer's medal, first vice president's bar, and Treasurer's medal. Dolly Sitko: Past of- ficer's bar, Secretary's medal, and Sargent at Arms medal. Adelaide Beaulieu: Past President's bar. A surprise visit was paid to us by E. Knauff from Calgary, who is in town for a holiday. At this time of the year there are a lot of important business matters that are coming up, and we urge all the Auxiliary members to make an effort to attend the next General Meeting, April 28, May 26 and June 30 at 8 p.m. sharp. Everyone has been more than helpful in providing me with any information I require. The role of trustee is more time-consuming that my family members or I realized. We have two sons in Terrace Bay Public School, and our daughter will enter Junior Kindergarten next year. The weekly and extra meetings, preparation time, and reading take away from family time. I thank my supportive and understanding husband! Even my bedtime reading has changed drastically from the works of J.A. Michener to B.J. Shapiro! The winners of the 1986 annual Terrace Bay Rac- quetball Tournament received their trophies in a presentation recently. From left to right are first place Tilden Rent-a-car Service Spadoni Bros. Ltd.
