Strawberry Patch continues to blossom Most people have heard of the Cabbage Patch, but what about the Strawberry Patch? That's the name of the arts and crafts store in Terrace Bay which recent- ly celebrated its first an- niversary of operation. Co-owners Darlene No- ble and June Jeffery were, , at first, a little hesitant to open such a specialty store in town. Then in October of 1984 they decided one day to just go ahead and started looking for a poten- tial spot for the establish- ment that very morning. A few months later, and the Strawberry Patch was open for business. "We felt there was a lack of crafts supplies in the area," Noble explain- ed. "Everybody told us to forget about opening a store, though, except my husband Dave, who said we should go for it." She added that although it was probably "insane" to consider going ahead, she and her mother June did anyway and have never regretted their decision. "*} don't know what I'd do without the store,"* No- ble admitted in an inter- view last week. "It's a lot of work, but it's worth it." Jeffery noted that if their store -doesn't have something in particular in stock, it can probably be ordered. However. -the shop does have a wide variety of material right on the premises, which are located at 7 Simcoe Plaza. with the main entrance fac- ing. Radisson Avenue. "We've got craft sup- plies, yarn and wool, sew- ing supplies, knitting needles, and even some toys." she said. Noble pointed out that the hobby of paper toling is really "taking off" in the area and that her store stocks paper toling sup- plies. In fact, she taught a course on the hobby earlier this month. 'We supply a lot of the recreation courses in town," she explained.
