Report from Rossport by Anne Todesco The St. John Berchmen Altar Society meeting took place last month at Mrs. Leo Legault's home. Rev. Father Groulx was present. The meeting was chaired by the President, Mrs. Lester, Legault. The members decided to run a 50-50 cash draw at the Fish Derby this year in- stead of purchasing an ar- ticle to. offer as a prize. Mrs. Legault offered to ob- tain the information on a foreign mission that could be benefitted by support from our church group. This will be finalized at this month's meeting. Beverly Legault invited the members to her home for that meeting. Mrs. Legault led in the opening prayers and scrip- ture reading. The secretary Laura Legault read. the minutes of. the previous meeting 'while Mrs. Pat Beno gave the financial report. Both were passed for adoption, In the correspondence, several thank you notes and cards were read. The report on the Christmas tea and bazaar was heard. A second fire has occur- red at Pays Plat within the last six months. While Mr. and Mrs. Kenney Good- child attended a Bingo on Friday evening, their home was completely destroyed. They lost all of their belongings except the clothes they were wearing. Everyone is collecting furniture, dishes, bedding, clothing, and food for them. They hope to be able to move into another building soon. Mrs. Laura Legault is home from McCausland Hospital in Terrace Bay, and Miss Cathy Gerow has obtained employment with Belluz Real Estate Co. also in. Terrace Bay. Mrs. Lillian Brassard is a patient at McCausland Hospital. 'We all would like to see you home again soon, Lillian. So much_ ice-making weather has gone by, but the skating rink is not ready for recreation yet, owing to the breakdown of the hook- up machinery, which had to be sent away to be repaired, and the delay in obtaining repaired parts. In the meantime, some of the boys decided to prepare a rink on the har- bour ice, but Old Man Winter decided otherwise. The strong winds opened up the ice field and destroyed the rink. It reminded villagers of playing hockey on a rink built in front of the Bruley and Kenney docks. Many a lively game was witness- ed between Schreiber, Heron Bay, Jackfish, Nipigon, and Rossport. A canvas windbreak would be put up to help protect the villagers while thev cheered their home team in the match. Many a fast and exciting game of hockey was enjoyed, then off to our homés to feed the visiting team and our. boys. After the W.L. Hall was built and a skating rink constructed by the Fish and Game Association, all hockey activities, car- nivals,* etc. were more comfortable to attend as the rink had two dressing rooms well heated by wood burning camp stoves. YOU'VE GOT WHAT IT TAKES Sports and Fitness Ontario FKNAR Terrace Bay Police in- vestigated four motor vehi- cle accidents and assisted the O.P.P. with another two over the past two weeks. One of the local ac- cidents was a hit and run and resulted in a person be- ing charged with. Failing To Remain under the Highway Traffic Act. Police are still in- vestigating regarding a recovered stolen motorcy- cle and also the theft of a stolen snow machine reported by a_ local resident. One male subject has been charged under the Township By-laws for driving a motor vehicle on a foot path. Police attended at five fires this past two weeks, 9 Terrace Bay-Schreiber News, Wednesday, February 5, 1986, page 3 Close call The Red Rock Raiders goaltender had to come up with a number of saves like this one but his efforts proved to be in vain as the Raiders lost to the Nipigon Yard Kings by a score of 7-4 in just one of the games played at the second an- nual Terrace Bay No-Body Contest. The tournament, which was held this year from January 17 to 19 at the Terrace Bay Arena, was won by the Schreiber Sabres team. The Sabres defeated Red Rock Superiors 5-4 in the championship match. one at a local store, one at the mill and three private homes. A complaint of obscene phone calls was received and after investigation, the complainant was advised of procedure to follow if calls should persist. Police investigated 'the theft of a speaker stolen from a vehicle and a com- plaint of an attempted Break and Enter was at- tended. Entry had not been gained and no_ suspects found in the area at the time. A family dispute was at- tended to by Police resulting in one member proceeding with laying a Peace Bond against the other. Three stranded motorists were given assistance by Police. : Several traffic and park- ing complaints were received, some resulting in warnings and others. in charges being laid. There were also two instances of abandoned vehicles obstructing snow removal. Police are investigating an incident where a stolen credit card was used for ac- commodation at a local motel. Once again the local merchants are reminded to check on credit cards when presented by an unknown person. Several complaints have been received and checked out regarding drivers not stopping for school buses. All motorists are reminded that charges resulting in heavy fines will be laid regarding these infractions.
