Resist Salt Road salt splashed onto trees and shrubs damages the dormant buds of sen- sitive trees and causes evergreen needles to brown, says Horticulturist Ruth Friendship of the On- tario Ministry of Agriculture and Food's rural organizations and ser- vices branch. Some tree and shrub species are more resistant to salt damage than others. Honeylocust, Norway maple, Russian-olive, white ash, blue spruce and Austrian pine are examples of highly-resistant species.
