Baker be authoriz- ed to attend the Building Officials Training program to be held in Thunder Bay, November 18th to 22nd, and December 2nd to 6th, at the expense of the municipality. It was resolved that Council adopt By-law Number 26-85, a by-law to amend By-law number 279 to provide additional school bus loading area on Hudson Drive. Council resolved that the statements of Disbursements dated Oc- tober 24, 1985 in the total amount of $56,178.26 be "approved. Council resolved to adopt by-law Number 31-85, a by-law to authorize the municipality to enter into agreements regarding leasing of certain property. Junior _ Essay by, Jennifer Preston - Port Elgin, Ontario. I shuffled my boots impatiently in the slush on the street as I waited for our town's Remembrance Day service to begin. My toes were numb and my fingers frozen. I scrunched my toes up inside my boots and blew: warm breath on my fingers. What was the significance of all this anyway? All Rememberance Day meant to me was going to a boring Remembrance Day service and freezing to death while there. Away in the distance I could hear the faint echo of bag pipes. In front of our town's war memorial the small group of onlookers started to turn their heads. The veterans appeared. Every face wore the same expression, grim and proud. As I watched not really paying attention I made designs in the snow with the toe of my boot. The master of ceremonies gave a small address to the crowd. I yawned loudly. A few people turned around and gave me sharp and angry glances. Then an old man limped up to the podium. On his face were a few vicious and noticeable scars. He spoke in a voice tired but filled with determination. He spoke of the tragedies and the triumphs of the war. I listened intently as he told in detail about the suffering and the heartaches that war had brought upon thousands of men, women and their families. At the end of his speech a warm feeling rose up inside me. I reached up to my jacket lapel and stroked my red poppy with a new attitude. Finally I understood. | Rita McBride for Trustee AN. The name of Rita McBride shall be on that ballot. May I please take a mo- ment of your time to in- troduce myself. Terrace Bay has been my home for over 30 years. I have en- joyed receiving part of my education here, taught in St. Martin School, married Lorne who is employed with Kimberly Clark and share in the nursing and concerns of our children. The two youngest are students in the Lake Superior Secondary Systems. It has been my pleasure - to be involved in church and community activities most of my life, especially youth oriented organiza- tions. This year being a leader in "4H", a youth development fun activity, is my. prime choice. During the 1970's I served three complete terms as a_ responsible, concerned "'trustee" with the Terrace Bay-Schreiber Roman Catholic Separate School Board, the council during the formation of the North of Superior R.C.S.S. Board and the newly formed Board itself. Upon completion of the third' term I decided to retire for a few years as "charity does begin at home"' and I chose to en- joy the most precious years of parenting by giving my full support to my. family.
