Atten- Council Students' Minutes _The September 27th well as the treasurer's report at $683.17. Discuss- ed were ways to get people to participate in the writing of articles for the paper. It was decided a schedule proposal will be drafted up by the committee con- sisting of Derek Boucher, Lisa Heinrich, Tamalea Meister, and Jeff Pope. Last June Students Council donated a sum of -money to Unicef for Africa Relief and in September we received a letter and cer- tificate thanking Lake Superior High School for its support. These articles will be framed and then displayed on both cam- puses of LSHS. Problems and 'sugges- tions for Initiation will be discussed at the next meeting. The Council talked about when and what the next dance will be. It was suggested that a '* Victory Dance" be held October 18th on the Schreiber Cam- pus in celebration of the hoped for victory of the junior and senior Volleyball Teams on the 16th and 17th. It was also suggested that a "Hallo- ween Costume Dance" be held November 8th, | week after October 31st in Terrace Bay. Other ideas which were discussed were selling brand name chocolate bars and placing suggestion boxes on both campuses. Also we will post a list of Student Coun- cil members so. that students will know who the North Shore Motors & Marine... The meeting ad- journed at 5:15 p.m. On the agenda for October Ist meeting in Terrace Bay are Dance Policy and Initiation Evaluation. Regional Youth Multicultural Conference In Thunder Bay, Oc- tober 18th, 19th, and 20th a conference sponsored the Multicultural Association is being attended by seven students from Lake Superior High: Tamalea Meister, Lisa Heinrich, Kara Lee Klassen, Jaime Figliomeni, Mark Wilson, Derek Boucher, and Jaime Duggan. The conference will cover issues ranging from racism and prejudice to peer pressure and crime. Steve Fonyo will be guest speaker as well as John Graham from Washington. Associated with the con- ference are several con- tests. There is a poster con- test (18 x 24) with the * theme of "Improving our Tomorrow Together' plus multiculturalism. The deadline is October 10th. An Essay Contest is also open to all those interested. The essay must have a multicultural theme (racism, discrimination, prejudice, or heritage) and consist of 1500 to 2000 words. The deadline is November Ist with Ist prize being $200.00, 2nd prize $150.00 and 3rd prize $100.00. All youth are en- couraged to get involved. Sports and Stuff On Saturday, Sept. 28, LSHS entered two teams in the Marathon Senior Boy's Volleyball Invitational Tournament. The White Team composed of Curtis Evoy, Steve Denomme, Kevin Roberts, Mike Strassburger, Darryl Payette, Ron Stortini, and Dave Beaulieu placed first in the seven team round- robin tournament before losing 15-13 to Marathon in the semi-finals. Two members of'* the White Team, Geordy Fournier and Mike Barry did not at- tend the tournament. The Purple team of Shawn Madore, Henry Kaari, Charlie Scollard, Jeff Bon- nema, Warren Sutherland, Keo Voradeth," Kenton Klassen, and Robin Gor- don managed to win one game but lost four games by only two points. Con- gratulations to all the boys for a fine effort and to Mr. Roberts for being the first LSHS coach to win and lose the same game. Cuts will take place this week with only 11 or 12 players remaining on one team. Practice continues weknights, until the tourna- ment on October 16th and 17th. The junior boys Volleyball Team tied for first place with Wawa at the Marathon Invitiational Volleyball Tournament on Saturday.
