This program begins Yes we by GERTRUDE COTTON A second meeting of those interested in forming a Handicap Action Group for Terrace Bay - Schreiber met Tuesday evening in the McCausland Hospital. This group had been instigatged by Jack Patterson now a resident of Terrace Bay. In response to letters sent out last month by Elizabeth McLean, several new faces were welcomed: Ed Borutski of Schreiber Town Council and Holy Angels Roman Catholic Church; Ollie Chapman of Terrace Bay Town. Coun- cil Keith Milne, Pastor of Terrace Bay Gospel Assembly, Bill LeGrande, Minister of Schreiber's St. John's Anglican Church, Connie Bryson represen- ting Order of Eastern Star, McCausland Hospital, Auxiliary to Schreiber Legion, Masonic Lodge and Schreiber Legion 109, Beth Moffat representing Waghorn's Pharmacy, Peggy Thompson, Terrace Bay Community Church and Auxiliary, Bunny Singleton Board of Gover- nors McCausland Hospital, Betty Wilkie, Terrace Bay Tuesday, October 15th at 2:00 p.m. Don't forget to bring in a picture of your child for the wall display. Legion Auxiliary, Wade McLean, Lake Superior High School, Terrace Bay Campus and Gertrude Cot- ton, Birchwood Auxiliary. It was decided all meetings should be open, with the next meeting November 7th at 7:00 p.m. McCausland Hospital. Rod Thompson was nominated to head up the group. Rod had done a lot of . groundwork -- on wheelchair accessibility within the two towns. Through Northern Affairs and the March of Dimes Rod has learned funding is available to extend ramps and doors to existing buildings. He will obtain application forms. This will be a top priority of the group. Entertainment was another topic for considera- . tion, though until more buildings become accessi- ble, it would be confined to the hospital area. Many suggestions were made and will be dealt with at greater length. A notice will be placed in the paper seeking names of persons who might also benefit from a mutual shar- ing of resources and information. Back once again» by KIM BORSA A new year for 4H has just begun. The first meeting took place on Monday, September 23rd. The group consists of 13 girls. Our President this year is Donna Lalonde, our Secretary is Anna Jakubowski, our Treasurer is Danielle St. Amand, our vice president is Erin Marcella and our Press Reporter is myself Kim Borsa. On our first meeting we made Basic Tea Biscuits. We all enjoyed what we had made, and were assigned to make them at home for our parents. On our second meeting we thought of our name and we are now called the "Pastry Puffs'. We all en- joyed our second meeting because we made 2 pies. We made a blueberry and an apple pie. After the pies were cooked we ate them, they were good but would have been better if we had ice cream and cheese. The C.W.L. Regional Meeting tour agenda met in the Parish Centre October 2nd. Father Peter Groulx opened with a prayer. There were about'50 in at- tendance from Thunder Bay,. Terrace Bay and Marathon. There were scriptural readings and workshop ideas etc. Speeches from the head table were Mrs. Alda Hall, Mrs. J. Kemp, Sharon Legault and Kathleen Muk- konen. A centre piece made by Celia Valentino was raffled and won by Mrs. Sarrinen. Coffee and lunch was served and en- joyed by all. The next meeting will be in Marathon November 22nd. Mrs. Louise Irving (nee Christianson) is visiting her mom and brother. She is from Lasquete Island, B.C. The C.W.L. Bake Sale and Tea and Penny Auction was a_ successful event. Thanks to all who donated and helped in any way. A shower was held in the United Church base- ment honouring Mrs. Lin- da Ballentine nee Ross on October 2nd in the United St. Andrews Hall. Receiv- ing with the bride were her mom and the groom's mom Dorothy Ballentine and Sheila Moquin sister of the groom. Linda Comeau sister of the groom opened the gifts. Servitors were Pam and Glenda Glad, Judy Bourguignon, Dianne Gionet and Pauline Bour- rie. Kitchen helpers were Nancy Zaporzan, Phyllis Luke and Charlotte Miller. Many lovely gifts were received. Thanks to all who helped. The. United Church Women met on Wednesday evening with Marg Smith President speaking and 12 members present. Gwen Hadley led in devotions. Patterson the wife of a Missioner'in the Bar- bados will be present in the afternoon at 2 p.m. on Nov. 5 and will speak on her experiences in that country, also demonstrating East Indian cookery. Any interested person may attend, lunch will be served. Everyone will be made welcome.
