The whole business of buying versus renting is a very open subject. And making the right decision is no simple matter. Much depends on your own needs, wants and lifestyle. Do you really want a house -- and the headaches that go along with ownership? Or is the comparative freedom that comes with renting more to your liking? Of course, there's the all-important matter of finances to consider. If you simply can't afford to buy, you rent. And that's that. But if you can afford to buy, then the choice is yours. To move into a house costing, say, $100,000 takes about $30,000 to cover the down payment, legal fees and other move-in expenses. Plus, of course, a mortgage of about $75,000. A lot of money. The alternative is to go on renting and invest your $30,000. At today's rates the interest alone should be enough to pay your rent for three or four months. more. There is one thing, though. By buying you build up equity in your home. By renting, you don't. And if the home you buy increases in value over the years, you come out a winner. So after careful con- sideration you finally decide to buy. What sort of house do you look for and where? Obviously the smaller and cheaper the Or -even*' Contact: D. Ross 824-2456 . G. And location is key in terms of appreciation and ease of resale. Also; it's better to buy the smallest house on a nice street -- not the largest. The reason is that a large house on a street of modest bungalows won't increase in value as quick- ly as the small ones. Besides, taxes and other expenses will be higher. So what to do? If you're a person who likes to make money, and enjoys investing, then you're better off renting. But if a house of your own is important to you and your family -- and you can afford it -- then buy. You can't put a price tag on the satisfaction you'll get. continued from page 6 Tuesday 7-9:30 p.m., Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday 2-5 p.m. Anyone wishing copies of pictures which were on display in the Recreation Complex dur- ing Centennial week, please contact Mrs. Billie Ann Saarinen, our librarian.
