Page 6, Terrace Bay-Schreiber News, Wednesday, June 26, 1985 What's Cooking Ice cream... cool, smooth, creamy and deliciously refreshing...but...Oh, so fattening! In this "slim 'n trim'"' age who can afford to regularly indulge oneself with this sumptuous treat? A small scoop of ice cream ('% cup serving) adds at least 141 to: 184 calories, according to Health and Welfare Canada. Pile on even more calories if your fantasy revolves around double-rich, homemade- style flavors. True Low Calorie How does a mere 53 to 60 calorie per serving ice cream strike you? With just a few minutes in your own kitchen, you can combine common grocery items - sometimes better known for other recipe uses - to make such low calorie, tru- ly delicious ice creams in flavors limited only by your imagination. This huge calorie reduc- tion is achieved simply via the use of a unique prepara- tion method and Equal Low-Calorie Sweetener. Sugar just isn't required. Knox Unflavored Gelatine reduces the size of the ice crystals, eliminating the need for an expensive ice cream maker. All you need is a spoon and your own refrigerator freezer to make ice cream that's smooth, creamy and simp- ly delicious. These recipes will get you started; then let your imagination and your own "'sweet fantasies" soar. Do remember, however, to store your creations in air- tight containers. For the best texture, do not press or pack in containers. Try to provide a few hours or an overnight time period to allow the flavors to "'ripen". Use within a week.
