Town Minutes Terrace Bay-Schreiber News, Wednesday, April 3, 1985, page 9 Terrace Bay The Terrace Bay Public Library Board appeared before Council to present their 1985 budget and was ° approved as presented for a total municipal require- ment of $70,608.00. Mr. G. Gusul appeared before Council to discuss the Township's group in- surance plan. The municipality authorized cancellation of the present employee group life and related insurance coverage carried by London Life, and implementation of a new package of coverage as proposed by Mr. G. Gusul of Mutual Life of Canada, to take effect April 1, 1985. The Town of Geraldton requested support for their concerns about the cancellation of Medivac aircraft services in this area by Kyro Airways. Council will express its concern to the Minister of Health regarding the cancellation by Kyro Airways of fixed- wing medivac service originating in Geraldton, and request the Minister to take the appropriate steps to ensure that this impor- tant service is not lost. The municipality's solicitors forwarded an up- date on the Zroback case, and request direction from Council. This matter was referred to a_ special meeting of Council called immediately following the present meeting. The Public Works department employees re- quested a date for a further negotiation meeting. Coun- cil established Monday, April 1, 1985 at 1:00 p.m. for this meeting, and directed that the depart- ment be advised. The Dryden Observer suggested that Terrace Bay place a congratulatory message for the Town of Dryden's 75th anniversary in their special supplement. Council declined but will send a congratulatory letter. The Thunder Bay Com- munity Auditorium re- quested wording for the commemorative plaque to be placed in consideration of our original $1,000.00 donation. The consensus of Consultant Pharmacy Services The five hospitals on the north shore of Lake Superior will soon be receiving consultant phar- macy services, Health Minister Alan Pope an- nounced here today. The Thunder Bay District Health Council had recom- mended the proposal to the ministry. Mr. Pope said a full- time pharmacist will offer services on a continuing , basis to~ the hospitals located in Geraldton, Manitouwadge, Marathon, Nipigon and Terrace Bay. The ministry will provide $55,000 in annual funding for this program. Council directed that a re-zoning process be started with respect to the sale of property on Rad- disson Ave. for proposed car wash. A public meeting has been scheduled for May 9th, 1985. 'Council adopted a by- law to authorize the municipality to enter into an agreement for the pro- vision of musician's services. _ Council adopted a by- law to establish the Recrea- tion Discipline Committee and to adopt a_ policy governing disciplinary ac- tion in the Recreation Department. Council will lift the present suspensions from Recreation facilities as of April 15, 1985. The municipality will advertise for the position of Township Engineer. Council approved an ap- portionment of the 1985 Lake Superior Board of Education 1985 levy to be awarded by arbitration under the Education Act. Mrs. Sheelagh Hamilton errace Bay has been appointed to the Terrace Bay Public Library Board to complete the term of office vacated by Mrs. S. Patriquin. Constable R. Phillips has been authorized to at- tend the Criminal In- vestigation Course in Aylmer, Ontario, April 15 and May 24, 1985, at the expense of the municipality. Chief T. Tack has been authorized to attend the Young Offenders Act Seminar in Thunder Bay, March 27, 1985 .Also Chief Tack will attend the Chief's Conference in Ot- tawa, June 16 to 20, 1985, both at the expense of the municipality. Schreiber The Town Clerk re- quested to reply to Mrs. A. Gowen, indicating that the Township does not intend to proceed with the pur- chase and development of Part 2 of Plan SSR-2845, as a children's park.. Council does not deem the sugges- tion a viable one, consider- ing that the M.T.C. have cautioned the Township as to the entrance, and loca- tion of the proposed park site, and due to general budget constraints. Clerk indicated, that final arrangements are be- ing made to R. Martin, and a draft by-law amending the zoning regulations allow the construction of a house on part. Roads The 1985 subsidy alloca- tion received from the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, and as a result the road pro- gram for 1985 ° was established. The Township intends to proceed with the paving of Winnipeg Street and Peary Street, and part of Langworthy St., along with other smaller streets. That the Township of Schreiber, petition the Ministry of Transportation & Communications, to * provide supplementary monies: for Road Construc- tion. The estimated total expenditure is $129,500.00. L. Davis and R. Harris are authorized to attend a Safety Seminar in Thunder Bay, April 1,2, 3. Preliminary discussions of the sale of lots in R-271 was held. It is the intention of the committee to hold more meetings to establish a policy for the disposal of the lots. It was reported that a claim for damage will be forthcoming from J. Figliomeni (Ethel St.) due to an incident that occured while thawing water on Ethel Street. Recreation The 1985 Recreation Budget will be available soon. A tentative budget for the improvement of the ball park, has been set at $79,000. It is the intention of the Committee to replace cer- tain playground equipment at the Holy Angels School Playground, at an estimated cost of $4200. © The Recreation Commit- tee, will sponsor the N.W.O. Recreation Association Conference in June this year. The 1985 Fire Budget is now completed, and will be approved 'as part of the overall budgeting function. The overall budget is $88,665.00 which includes $53,000.00 for capital and reserve expenditures. Plans are progressing well for the upcoming celebrations. It is the inten- tion of Council to purchase some park" benches and planters, to beautify the Township, for the upcom- ing celebrations. Also ten- tatively planned is a Fireworks Display to be held at Walkers Lake.
