Page 2, Terrace Bay-Schreiber News, Wednesday, March 6, 1985 Bits did BITES By Helene Ballard Another month gone by, so we are slowly pushing into Spring with its April showers and May flowers, it can't come too soon for this old gal. I've had another nice tweek here at Birchwood. On Tuesday the 25th the Ladies from the Auxiliary came in for an afternoon of fun, a penny auction, we always enjoy one of these - and our grateful thanks to the Ladies who always work: so hard on our behalf. Wednesday evening we had another enjoyable time when Mr. Mario Com- misso from Schreiber came to play the piano for us. We also had some singing, of course our voices are a bit rusty but we really put our hearts in it. Our thanks to Mr. Commisso for giv- ing us of his time and please come back again. , Had a real fun time at the "Under 100"' Bowling League. It was a "Sweetheart Bowling" and was held on Valentine's Day. Many good scores were in evidence as couples bowled. Winners of the High Triple were Rena Ross and Jack Handel. High game was won by Lil Christie and Bob Fournier. Beth Macadam and Werner Zeigler won the Hidden Score. Bowling for Seniors is courtesy of the Terrace Bay Recreation. Any senior is welcome to come out and bowl. It's every Wednes- day morning at 10 a.m. We would also welcome some "score keepers" if any of you would like to bowl or keep score phone Joann LeBlanc or Pam Jones. Hope to see you there. Now my Bite for this week. Maybe some of you are tired about all the trou- ble with dogs but my phone has been busy with folks calling and asking me to please ask you people who still let your dogs run where ever they want, at least keep them tied up un- til after the garbage has been collected, it's not very nice both for the home owner and the men who work this detail to have to - pick up their garbage which dogs have spread all over, and I think a good place to start is for people who have dogs, to obey the leash law. If this was done there would be no problem, so please, I am asking you as nicely as I can - Tie up your Dogs - Thank you! Now think this over: Question: Why. did the moron take a bale of hay to bed? You still have time to appeal your 1984 assessment if you feel your home or business property has been improperly assessed. Your assessment is important because the amount of property tax you pay depends on it, in that the assessed value of your property is multiplied by your municipal and school mill rate to determine your 1985 property taxes. Notices of Assessment have been mailed to.property owners and tenants whose assessments have changed since last year. Open houses have been held in your area to answer questions and amend assessment information if necessary. Open house dates and locations were announced in a previous advertisement. The Assessment Roll has now been delivered to your municipal- ity for the purposes of calculating the amount of taxes you must pay on your property in 1985. For information on your assess- ment, the Assessment Roll is now available for review at your Municipal Office during regular business hours. If you feel your property has been improperly assessed, and you have not yet made your appeal known, you still have until March 8, 1985 to deliver or mail an appeal to the Assessment Review Board. And remember, even if you did not receive a Notice of Assess- ment, you still have the right to appeal. Appeal deadline--March 8, 1985 The Assessment Review Board is an impartial body reporting to the Attorney General of Ontario, which provides you with an addi- tional opportunity to have your assessment reviewed if, in your opinion, it is not fair and equitable with similar properties in your area. The Review Board is more informal and relaxed than a regular court of law. You may present your own case, retain a lawyer or ask a relative or friend to speak as your agent. To help you in filing your appeal, Notice of Appeal forms are available from the Assessment Review Board, your Regional Assessment Office or your Municipal Office. As well, you can use the reverse side of a Notice of Assessment or write a letter stating the property address and roll number, together with your reasons for appealing. Appeals should be forwarded to the Regional Reg- istrar of the Assessment Review Board listed below.
