I have forgotten the ex- act date of this disaster, but it must have been about 70 years ago, as I was only a child. I can remember a great about it though, as my father's train was the last one over the fateful bridge. He was a railroader, out of Webbwood. This day he was on the east bound freight from Webbwood to Sudbury. There were four passenger trains travelling the Soo line at that time. Two were Tornto trains, numbers 17 and 18. Two were Montreal bound, numbers 27 and 28. The Montreal train ran through to Minneapolis, Min- nesota, where an American crew took over. I think it was the Toronto train that was involved in_ this tragedy, as Nairm is only a few miles east of Webb- wood, and the freight would have left Webbwood around 8:00 or 9:00 a.m. The Toronto passenger went morning and evening, while the Montreal went afternoon. There was a massive loss of life, when this freight and the passenger collided.
