Harris - Superintendent Delegations Mr. K. DesRosiers, of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs & Housing Plann- ing Branch, was on hand to present to Council, infor- mation concerning the preparation of an official plan for the municipality. He stated, that the Of- ficial Plan, is a statement of the Goals and Objections of the Municipality, insofar as the future development of the Township is concerned. It would provide an oppor- tunity to develop the land to its optimum use, and would ensure, that future development takes place in a planned manner, accor- ding to an overall grand design. He pointed out, that at the present time, there is a 50 per cent grant available from the Ministry of Hous- ing, to assist the Township, along with assistance towards the cost of printing the plan documents. Council questioned him concerning various aspects of the procedure required to enact an official plan. It was indicated to Mr. DesRosiers that Council would give the matter fur- ther study before, making a decision as to the ad- visability of enacting a Road plan. Mr. DesRosiers pro-° mised to forward more literature, and some indica- tion what the cost of enac- ting a plan would be. Mr. M. Jones, of Parks Canada, was on hand at the request of Council, so that various activities at Pukaskwa National Park, and the Centennial Celebrations of the Township of Schreiber, could be co-ordinated if possible. He was interested in placing various promo- tional items in the Township, at the time of the Schreiber Centennial. Items such as the sponsor- ship of the Wakami Wailers, by the four Municipalities near the park, the promotion of the fact that the CP Rail 100 year old train will be in Schreiber, during Centen- nial Week, were discussed. Also discussed was the tim- ing of the Schreiber Centennial Celebrations, and Parks Heritage Awareness Week. There was a general spirit of co-operation, and it was felt, that the Parks people and the Centennial Committee, could work together to their mutual advantage. Business Arising From the Minutes Clerk advised Council, that Mr. Kushnieryk, has inquired through his solicitor, as to the possibili- ty of the Township enac- ting a by-law amending the zoning by-law, to allow him to construct a house on his property at Walker Lake. Reports of Committees: Engineering Report: Roads: no subsidy allocation has been receiv- ed as yet from the Ministry of Transportation. However, tentative priorities have been set for the construction program this year. Water: The M.O.E., are continuing to apply soda ash, and will do so for this year. The M.O.E. will be asked to comment on the effectiveness of the pro- gram. The Township have advised the M.O.E. that they will accept the cost of the soda ash application for this year, on a trial basis. Property: Final plans and documents have gone toM.O.E. for approval covering the installation of water and sewer lines in the R-271 subdivision. D.L. Davis, requested that a Design and Construction Committee be formed to provide input for the con- struction of a new Fire Hall. The Township will be making a submission to the Hydro sponsored Energy Audit Program, for an analysis of the heating system performance in The Municipal Office and Medical Centre. Safety: It has been recommended by the Safe- ty Committee, that the Township __ encourage employees to take outside training to learn manhole entry techniques. Reports of Committee Roads: The Committee recommends that applica- tion be made by the By ANNE TODESCO Nine members recited the opening prayers at the meeting of the St. John Berchmen Altar Society Tuesday evening at the president's Miss Beverly Legault's home. In place of a scripture reading, Bever- ly read an_ interesting description of the Lord's Prayer. Laura Legault presented a report on the Altar Socie- ty's pins, that are being made by a Winnipeg firm, and we hope to have them ready for delivery in the near future. A set price was instituted to purchase an article to use as a draw prize, to be drawn on Derby Day. The president agreed to shop around for something in the musical or radio shops. A report was heard on the public and home bingos M.T.C., for subsidy fun- ding to cover the cost of paving Winnipeg, Peary, Langworthy East, Ethel St., and that the Township share of the costs, be taken from reserve funds. Engineering Dept. re- quested to begin preliminary plans for the correction of drainage pro- blems, north of Highway, and week of Cook Creek. Water: The Committee recommends, that the in- stallation of water and sewer line laterals, to va- cant lots on Peary St. be done, in anticipation of the proposed paving program. Discussions were held con- cerning the possibility of installing a standpipe at Walker's Lake to provide better fire emergency water for the area. Building Committee The necessary steps are to be taken, to charge those persons known to have violated provisions of the building permit by-law, and who have failed to ob- tain a permit, or failed to comply with the building by-law or the zoning by- law as it relates to zoning. Clerk requested to draw up a schedule of times of in- spections applicable to those persons who have taken out building permits. This information is to be provided to building permit applicants, for their infor- - mation and guidance. Recreation Committee Because of the poor ac- tivity in the games room during the week, the Com- mittee is considering the closing of the room weekdays, and opening on- ly during the weekend. The Recreation Co-ordinator, has been requested to con- tinue to work on the winter carnival. Work has been com- pleted on the main hall floor, and the new dishwasher has_ been installed. The Committee re- continued on page 11 for the past month. Some proved very satisfactory, while others were very low, profit wise. A discussion was had on the consumption of oil by the church furnace, but by comparison with others who use oil for heating, it was found that the increase in volume was more or less equal to other consumers. Members are to bring ideas to the next meeting of ways to raise funds for incidentals. Following the closing prayers the hostess served a luncheon and a. social hour was enjoyed. Mrs. Doris Legault has returned from Thunder Bay after visiting her sister Rena the past week. Mrs. Mary Schelling is home from the McCausland Hospital, in Terrace Bay. I guess we are all Women and disabilities conference There will be a meeting in Terrace Bay on March 7 to discuss the results of the Ontario March of Dimes survey regarding concerns of women with disabilities in Northwestern Ontario. Also being discussed will be the plans for the upcom- ing May conference on Women and Disabilities © being held in Thunder Bay. On Thursday, Feb. 21st the Ladies Auxiliary of the Canadian Legion hosted an afternoon of Bingo for the residents and it was indeed a nice way to spend a dull day. We are very grateful to the Ladies for all their efforts on our behalf.
